China to buy 130 Airbus planes

BERLIN: -- Chinese airlines are to buy 130 Airbus planes under a deal signed by China and Germany and worth over 15 billion euros.

The agreement includes a firm order for 30 A330 jets. Airbus shares rose on the news.

To help secure more Chinese orders, Airbus agreed in July to build a completion centre for A330 jets in Tianjin, where it’s already been assembling A320s.

Air China and other carriers are expanding fleets to cater for an anticipated large rise in the number of Chinese passengers – a hugely lucrative market which Airbus’ rival Boeing is worth a trillion dollars over the next two decades.

And what was the reasoning behind the Chinese pressure to build this centre?
