Two weeks overstay

Featured Replies

I have done the worst thing possible in Thailand:overstaying. Now,without go out from Savannabhumi, which alternative i have for leave the country and apply for my Non O visa?

You just pay the overstay fine on departure from the country.

Where do you plan on going for the non-o visa?

Savannaket or Vientiane Ubonjoe:can i be catched on the way by bus

There is always the risk of being caught on the way to the border.

Are you wanting to get a single or multiple entry visa and upon what basis?

Based on marriage:one entry

Vientiane would be a good choice for a single entry in your case.

To reduce the risk you could fly to Udon Thani and then get a van to the crossing in Nong Khai and then travel back by land. Nok Air has a fly ride service to Vientiane via Udon.

Savannaket or Vientiane Ubonjoe:can i be catched on the way by bus

Usually, at the checkpoint a few KM inside the border, they only request IDs from asians. This has been my experience in all but one case. YMMV. Perahps the fly-drive van is less scrutinized?

Personally, I'd fork over the extra to buy a flight directly to Vientiene, since you are going for a single-entry, which are available there. But I am, admittedly, overly cautious about such things.

If you have to check if you can afford an air ticket then you have much bigger problems than paying 2 weeks overstay.

Leave Thailand via AIRPORT direct............... DO NOT GO TO IMMI OFFICE

Leave and pay at international airport 500 baht perday total

Then apply for Visa at your country..... Would help if you go pay a doctor a few hundred baht and get a medical certificate from a Thai quack saying you were sick with virus for 2 weeks layed up in bed

This may help the Visa App if they quirie the overstay

Good Luck

Should be sweet

Direct flights to Vientiane or Savannakhet are usually expensive. However, if leaving from Bangkok and you hurry, you can pick up a reasonable deal on Bangkok Airways this Sunday.(4,405 baht all in one-way).

Nonsense and bad advice !

Such a "certificate" would NOT "help" in any way .................

Don't forget the 7,000 baht overstay fine for 2 weeks.

I can assure you there are much worse things you could have done in thailand.

Whereever you are, do a lot of waiing and be very apologetic. It's surprising how lenient Thai officialdom can be if you admit you are in the wrong.

Come across as another arrogant falang, then be prepared for a hard time.

i did a lot of bowing and apologising - 2 days over, calculation error on my behalf when i booked my ticket - the immigration guy just smiled and told me, it does not matter how sorry i am, i would get fined anyway.

to make matters worse i had to follow him, he was walking a brisk pace holding my passport like a trophy, from check-in a to c where the cashier is, attracting quiet some attention during my 'walk of shame'.

also, on the bus just outside that phanom we got pulled over and EVERYONE including the driver had to show id (it was the last day of my 30 day extension).

as it turned out the police officer checking my passport new my gf who was sitting next to me. don't know what would have happened otherwise.

You and probably 100 plus people a day have to pay the over stay fine when leaving the airport.

It is routine procedure and the immigration officers do not really care nor do they scrutinize you and or berate you.

Possibly now , with the immigration climate the way it is, for some nationals, they may ask questions and scrutinize the person....meantime, regular as clock work, they simply take your over stay penalty money ( 500 baht per day ) and do their paper work and you get your receipt and a black color stamp in your passport that says you paid the overstay fine on the day you paid the fine.

The problem comes later when any Thai embassy sees that stamp in your passport then the consulate general may simply decide to refuse to grant you the visa you are applying for while citing your previous overstay as the valid reason for not granting you a visa.

But you can still show up at the airport and most likely the immigration officers at the airport will give you your 30 visa exempt ( 30 days for most nationals ) and hand back your passport with a smile....but next time or in the future another immigration officer may very well scrutinize you and point out the overstay fine stamp and question you about that issue and then decide to deny you entry into the Kingdom.

That would be happening far more so now than in previous times when they were far more lax.

No one advocates overstaying because you can get yourself in trouble if you some way or somehow find yourself confronted by the police at street level and you have to submit your passport to them and they see that you are overstay, then commonly they will make an issue of it....when really they should have nothing to say about it and simply let the immigration police deal with the issue when you leave the country or you go to the immigration office in any province....and they will tell you to pay the fine at the airport when you leave the country.

I surmise, because the immigration sector is also a police sector, then street level police officers are given the authority ( by who?? ..or they give it to themselves??? ) to arrest people that have overstayed and then make a huge issue out of your illegal overstay ....where as if you go to the airport the immigration officers ( a sector of the police force ) simply smile and point you over to the nearby office where you simply pay your fine of 500 baht per day and leave, with everyone happy and satisfied.

Because that is the way it is at the airport..... then why is it that street level police officers, who are not specifically immigration police offers by designation, are allowed to arrest you and criminalize you and hold you in jail and or make a huge issue out of your overstay and then demand ( as in extort ) 2 to 3 to 4 times the amount of the maximum penalty of 20,000 baht for overstay

I can only surmise that all too many officers will see it as some sort of opportunity to make some money from you as they are not the immigration sector of the police force, per say, so really they should not even concern themselves with your overstay status.....but ...I can only imagine they give themselves that authority at their own discretion....and who is to argue......as they have caught someone, anyone, that has violated a law.

Such is the way it is in Thailand.

So, like others have said before: Just go to the Airport and pay the fine and be on your way....but always remember that little black overstay stamp forever seen in your passport can or could effect you in the future.

Cheers

I have a walloping overstay stamp in passport 11 years and another one for 1 day and it had no influence whatsoever on a consulate issuing tourist visas. Last time in crossing for another tourist visa (third back-to-back with no warning stamps) at Nong Khai I was directed to overstay desk as I was overstay 1 day. The i/o simply remarked that I had a very long previous overstay and asked for the 500 Baht and I was on my way. So long as you declare and pay rather than being apprehended then at least for the moment there is no real difficulty. I would agree with UJ advice and go via Udon Thani with the NOK air fly/ride option. Easy and significantly cheaper than flying direct to Vientiane.

Geezus, your applying based on marriage to thai and your checking if you can afford an airline ticket?

Your post come across as a nice guy. i.e. admitting that you prob should not of overstayed in first place. But seriously have you looked at your business plan. Hope the pitta patta of little feet isn't next piece of the puzzle

you don't have to worry my friend you will be told by immigration at the airport that you are on overstay and how much it will cost in your case it will be 500 baht per day 2weeks -7,000 baht ok good luck,

He is saving for a return ticket. The 7k fine won't help the savings account. I should offer a course , forward planning 101

Why do people always hit the panic button on overstay? I am betting it is because they do not have funds to pay the over stay; non the less another example of the hundreds of similar posts on this subject we all see here. It reall is an inexcusable mistake on the person's part.
