Marrying a Thai

Featured Replies

Hi i hope someone can give me advice about getting a visa to live in thailand, next year im going to marry my thai gf, i get about 1000 uk pounds a month here in uk with my pensions, i cant afford to pay lump some into a bank as i have read that else where, so what is the best way i can do this to marry gf and live in thailand

Thanks to all for any advice you can give.

Non O Visa based on marriage from a neighbouring Country, no proof of funds required

You can obtain an extension of stay by demonstrating a monthly income of 40,000Bht certified by your Embassy.

Or a multiple entry "O" visa can be obtained from Savannakhet without the need to show finance.

Your income will qualify you to get a one year extension of stay based upon marriage to a Thai. The requirement is 40k baht income and at today's exchange rate you would have almost 54k baht of income.

I have removed a post that was meant to derail the topic.and a reply to it

You would be best advised to obtain a double entry tourist visa from a Thai Embassy/Consulate prior to leaving home.

You will need time to arrange the marriage. A step by step guide in the link

Once married you can obtain a single entry "o" visa from the Thai Consulate in Laos which will allow you to apply for a one year extension of stay at a Thai immigration office.

Or

You can get a multiple entry "o" visa from the Thai Consulate in Laos which permits entries of 90 days for one year (ie you must leave Thailand every 90 days and return for a new entry)

It is a multiple entry non immigrant category O visa which is shortened to non-o. A multiple entry visa allows unlimited 90 day entries for a year. You have to leave the country every 90 days to get a new entry.

Savannakhet Laos is where a Thai consulate is located.

As I wrote the non-i visa is not your only option. You can get the extension of stay I mentioned and not have to leave the country unless you wanted to. For it you would only need a single entry non-o visa.

I suggest you get a single entry tourist visa that would give you a 60 day entry to give you enough time to get married and get other things sorted out if needed.

A single entry tourist visa is easy to get from the embassy in London and requires no financial proof. You can even apply for it by post. Info here: http://thaiembassyuk.org.uk/?q=node/45
