Visa Vientiane: closing time for applications

Featured Replies

If I fly out of BKK 09:30 arriving and out of Vientiane airport by 11:00, can I make it in time to submit application? Told the Thai Consulate is about 20 minutes from airport. What time do they stop taking applications? Trying to avoid hotel cost the night b4.

They close the gates at 11:30 am.

Any idea how long it takes from airport to Thai Consulate? Best mode? Taxi, cost? Is there usually a long line at or around 11:15? I guess the big question is, what are the chances that I will I make it in time?

That will be very tight. Especially if flight a little delayed. You won't make it

The Border is about 20-30 mins from the Airport, you will have to go through Thai Immigration then Laos Immigration then the consulate is about 15 mins away

100% You will not make it for 11 30, change to a earlier flight if possible

He is flying direct to Vientiane not via Udon Thani.

The flight arrives Vientiane 10.35 am. Have no luggage. Wondering if I can make it through immigration and get a Laos visa and hetoutthedoor by 11. Wishful thinking?

I was told that U.S. Dollars work best? Taxi cost? Any ideas? Experience?

Not sure about VOA at the airport, but at the border, you hand in your passport and cash for VOA (dollars are much better for exchange-rate), and then stand there for 45 minutes to an hour, before getting it back with the visa. This was at Vientiene about 2 months ago, and same 6 months prior.

For any chance at all, best to get your LAO visa in advance of your trip.

whistling.gif I think that is the Lao Air flight I took from Swampy.

No you probably won't make it in time.

That Lao Air flight is first one in the day, I believe.

However, I flew on Sunday so the embassy was closed anyway.

I already had a hotel booked anyhow, so no problem there.

Got a taxi from the airport to the hotel.....cost me $7 U.S.

Booked the same driver to arrive at 07:30 Monday morning to take me to the embassy.

I may have paid a little to much for taxi fares, but I am minimally disabled, and travel with a wheelchair, so the taxi driver helped me get around also and waited at the embassy for me.

I budgeted $40 U.S. in 10 and 20 dollar new clean bills for taxi and such.

That was enough for including the trip back to the airport for my flight back to Bangkok.

Still had a couple of dollar bills leftover when I got back to Bangkok.

Vientianne airport has some decent coffee and pastry places where you can get a good cup of Lao coffee while you are waiting for your flight.

Even a booth where you can get an American Dairy Queen Chilli and Cheese hot dog if you want that.

Dairy Queen Fruit Slurpees to.

Lao is cheap. Stay the extra night and enjoy some of the sites. You could also save some money by flying to Udon Thani then take the airport van to Nong Khai border crossing. There are many early flights to Udon Thani but still doubtful you would make it to the Thai Consulate and fill out all the forms in time.

US dollars work ok some places but you'll get ripped off on exchange rates at stores and taxis. But best to exchange to Kip at the bank.

Don't think can fly to Udon and cross by land. Have to pay max fine first. Been told safer to fly out and pay at airport. Final: got a Monday night Thai Air flight out of Swampy. Stay the night in hotel next to consulate and go in the morning fly out Wed eve. So, I Book with Thai air and accident Lee click 1330 return I was thinking 2330. As soon as Thai air sent me that conformation saw my mistake and called them immediately. I just booked the ticket and they want to charge me 3000 baht to change it. I told them it was a mistake. Needless to say I lost the argument and paid anyway. I sent an email to corporate sales and told them if they want to keep my 3000 bah they lost a customer and I will tell everybody how bad this is.

They close the gates at 11:30 am.

hi ubonjoe

do u know if the double entry tourism visa is still available in the thai embassy of vientiane until the 13th november ?

thanks

They are still issuing 2 entry tourist visas and will do so up to the 13th.

I keep hearing the 13th of Nov. date come up. What exactly happens then?

The 13th is when the new multiple entry tourist visa (METV) starts. Apparently no more 2 or 3 entry visas after that.

So you're on overstay?

You made a mistake by staying here past your permission to stay and you made a mistake when booking your flight, but Thai Airways is at fault? Interesting thought process. I guess everyone who wants to change his booking should just claim it was mistake and get a freebie?

Actually I'm talking in first person for my over-stayed friend. I'm purchasing ticket for him and helping him get legal. He has a daughter and can get visa to stay. But yes, I clicked the wrong return time and didn't notice it till I got the itinerary emai. A simple mistake. I'm getting old. If you made that simple mistake and realized it right away, you would be upset that it couldn't be fixed immediate without a penalty would you not?

@Suradit69

You are assuming my friend intentionally over-stayed. Truth is, his former Thai wife dumped him here and took him for every penny he ever had, told him he could buy the house and chicken farm, 8 million baht, and went back to Netherlands without him. He did not know a foreigner can not own anything even if married. He was selling hotdogs on the side of the road just so he could eat. But, he went to court and won. In 3 weeks he gets half from the sale of the house and land. It was not his choice to overstay. He was lied to and stolen from but visa laws don't care about that, he's a foreigner with no rights here. When immigration caught him we showed them all the court documents, legal child, how he will go to court next month and waiting for that money b4 he can extend visa. They didn't care, just said that's a personal problem. I said the reason he doesn't have a visa is because of that problem. They said, "personal problem" take him to jail. Is he really a bad guy criminal, or a victim of bad people and a system that doesn't care because he's not from here?

And if you made a simple mistake with your reservation would you have not asked for leniency? In my country if I email airline corporate and tell them of problem they would refund me for sure. Here, Thai Air didn't even acknowledge email. What kind of customer service is that?

"Winning" a civil action in a Thai court does not guarantee that what is awarded by the court will be paid.

Has your friend determined where his money is coming from and who is going to pay? Thai court orders are not, to my knowledge, enforceable in the Netherlands.

Everything will go up for auction. If the wife agrees to sell it to an individual they both will receive more, she absolutely cannot stop the sale we have talked to three lawyers to say he has won his case. The court gave heror three years to show up she has refused to do so.

How much is the Non-0 by the way?

How much is the Non-0 by the way?

A single entry non-o visa is 2000 baht.

How much is the Non-0 by the way?

"O" visa

2000Bht single entry

5000Bht multiple entry.

"O" visas are only issued to those who qualify for one.

Not all Embassys/Consulates will issue the multi-entry visa.
