Ever had an iridectomy ?

Featured Replies

I am scheduled for this minor op on both my eyes in a fortnights time but am unclear as to the benefits or pitfalls if any.

It started when I went for an eye test and the woman told me her machine would not work on me so must be something wrong with my eyes. ( she might have been miffed I only wanted an eye test to see if my short sightedness had improved due to advancing age and not a pair of glasses )

Went to the Mayo hospital and they had the same machine ( the one where you see a little red house and picket fence ) and their machine worked ok. The ophthalmologist was a a bit brusque and hurried but confirmed my eyesight had improved but said I should return for the iridectomy. No explanation given although naturally I have checked it out on the internet.

So , has anybody had this procedure and did they notice any difference or improvement ( not withstanding it is a preventative thing rather than a fix )

Thanks in advance .

An irridectomy is usually done to treat closed-angle glaucoma.(increased internal eye pressure)

As you do not seem to have been given a adequate understanding of why this procedure has been suggested or had the risks/benefits explained you might wish to seek a second opinion.

Thanks for the reply.

Would need to know what condition you have that had led to this recommendation and also what type of procedure is planned as there are various types.

Yes indeed. As you can guess I am very familiar with what the options are and why it is done having already spent hours watching many YouTube videos.

However with little feedback at the hospital I am er ..prematurely left in the dark, as it were , as to why the doctor thought this was necessary. A second opinion which I will get this week should clarify this blank spot.

I was just curious to hear if anyone else had had it and if there was anything they did not like about the operation.
