hi all,. need some advice. I married my thai wife in Australia 6 years ago. my wife lives with me in oz. now want to register marriage in Thailand planning on moving to Thailand on visa am over 50. what forms ,steps, and where do I go, what do I need from oz .what does wife need to make so.

Have the marriage cer. translated into Thai. Have the translation certified by the MFA.

Then register the marriage at an Amphur.

What you do is aself certification of your marriage certificate by doing a statutory declaration at the Australian embassy Then have it and your marriage certificate translated to Thai. Then the translation needs to be certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

After you have the above done you then go to the Amphoe to register your foreign marriage. They will issue a Kor Ror 22 marriage registry. Update your wife's house book. And she will be given the opportunity to change her family name to yours on her ID card.

You might be able to avoid the self certification by getting your marriage certificate certified in Australia and then have the certification legalized by the Thai embassy or the consulate in Sydney.

He is planing on moving here and getting a visa. He is over 50 couldn't he just do that and get the standard marriage Thai marriage?

I suppose there could be other considerations such as he might not have the money to qualify for the single retirement which is a much easier one to handle.

I assume you are writing about registering a new marriage at an Amphoe. He cannot do that since he is already married.

Also it would not save any of the paperwork requirements. He would have to do an affirmation of permit to marry which would be more complicated than doing the self certification at the embassy. After that it is the same translations and certification.
