Supreme Court hears Libya dissident rendition claim
Dominic Casciani

LONDON: -- One of the most controversial claims of rendition involving the UK comes before the Supreme Court later.

The case, involving allegations against ex-Foreign Secretary Jack Straw and an ex-MI6 chief, prompted an unprecedented battle over whether it can even begin.

Former Libyan dissident Abdul Hakim Belhaj says MI6 helped arrange his and his wife's rendition in 2004.

The Supreme Court will be asked to decide whether or not the couple can sue the government.

Title is wrong, it's not the US Supreme Court, it's the UK Supreme Court.

They were covertly taken from Thailand to Libya. It would seem that suing the UK government would be an inappropriate venue as it did not control the transfer nor did the transfer involve UK/UE soverneignty.

Abdul would have more legal standing to sue the Thai and Libyan governments - bastions of human rights!

Good luck with that.
