Where can one get a four hour glucose tolerance test and who is best Dr. and best hospital for this procedure ? When I investigate all the health issues and disease from any kind of insulin resistance starting to occur it's really interesting and may be the root of so many conditions seen now that we're not so epidemic decades ago not just diabetes .

What makes you believe you need a GTT ?

You should see an Endocrinologist or General Physician who will run some basic tests to determine if any further investigation is warranted.

What makes you believe you need a GTT ?

This is the test I want with A1c ( other blood work at another time taking one step at a time and focusing now on insulin and insulin resistance ) love that in Thailand I can go À la carte and get most tests and results handed to me and then show my results to the doctor or Dr's of my choice . What a country [emoji106]

An A1c test is not a GTT which you first asked about.

Best improve your knowledge.

I know but added that to show how my focus was on insulin and not other things when you suggested other basic test . Thanks for your concern [emoji120]

You will not be able to get a GTT without a specific doctor's order and this is unlikley to be provided. The GTT is nowadays seldom used except for specific conditions like gestational diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes can be adequately excluded with just the FBS and HbA1c. Metabolic syndrome can be diagnosed or excluded from these tests plus a lipid panel and your waist measutement and BP.

Thanks Sheryl I will keep looking and report back if I find a doctor here that can provide this test . Looking to get the most details I can on carbohydrate metabolism and insulin secretion and resistance . Learned much from Chris and hope it's ok to put a link to one of his blogs .

Kresser is an American advocate of "alternative medicine"............... Least said the better.

Kresser sells "stuff" on line which has a disclaimer attached ......................

"These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease."

I just wrote I learned much from him not buy anything and as far as the FDA is concerned I guess they are still at their mission to protect tradition I don't know ?

The FDA exists in order to protect consumers not "tradition"

You "learnt" about GTT's which as you now know are rarely needed except in the case of some pregnant ladies !

Be careful of the online hustlers who warn people about different diseases that they may have and then try to sell supplements to cure them. Taking these people seriously can turn you into a hypochondriac. The supplement industry is huge and poorly regulated. Many supplements don't contain ANY of what is on the label!

Thanks for the heads up all ! Have been testing my fasting blood sugar with glucose monitor daily and changed diet radically a year ago giving up all forms of refined sugar and limiting even fruits and it's been slow to get down to the high 80's or low 90's but it down from 100 . 50% of all people in US are pre diabetic and I was one with decades having fasting blood sugar of 100 to 105 and wanted to get it down but it's slow process and looking to see if I am missing anything . Getting the GTT along with A1c more often and daily testing in the morning I hope will give details to help this process . Do I need GTT test ,,, no but it may give some more clues as to why it's so challenging to bring down I don't know but thank everyone for all their help and concern [emoji120]

A GTT will not give you any information as to why it is difficult to further lower your blood sugar.

The answer to that is the normal physiological processes of your body. Your blood sugar is already completely normal and does not need to be any lower.

Thanks for the reply Sheryl [emoji120] Optimal is what I am looking to achieve not normal but this is just my preference and not a should but perhaps a powerful could ? I don't know but want to investigate with a don't know mindset . One could be so called normal with a fasting blood sugar number of 98 but and optimal fasting number like low 80's I believe is possible with lifestyle medicine changes like diet and exercise . The GTT test I investigate actually measures the body's response to sugar giving one details about their insulin resistance that may be just beginning .

This test may be one of the best and most detailed ways to measure the body's way of dealing with insulin resistance and showing bodies response to sugar . This test possibly has far far more value for many than just picking up early diabetes ( which it does with amazing accuracy far better than a hemoglobin A-1 C blood test or a fasting blood sugar number )

At the start of this test the blood is drawn and tested after fasting 8+ hours and the fasting blood sugar is measured and ALSO the fasting insulin is measured ( to show how much insulin the Pancrease is making at baseline before a meal )

Then you are given a sweet drink in the lab

after that and the blood taken every hour and blood sugar is measured every hour and the insulin level is measured ever hour to see if the Pancrease is having to make lots of insulin to compensate . If it is this can be an indication that a complication is taking place that can cause many things . This test for me may be one of very many powerful ways and tests to drive strategies to achieve and exceed so called normal results and instead have a goal of something better and more optimal . I know almost nothing but learn much about the benefits possibly available with this kind of bio hacking that may be an option for those who want something better than just to be the so called medical term normal .

From what I've read, a fasting blood sugar of 92 is considered just fine by many doctors. I used to be 112 but have been a steady 90-92 for about four years now. One doctor told me at 92 sugar, providing I don't gain much weight and continue to exercise and eat sensibly, then there is virtually no chance of me becoming diabetic in the next ten years so I really don't concern myself with aggressively trying to lower my fasting sugar any further. I think you may be getting fixated on reducing your numbers for minimal effect.

Ask for a " Hyperinsulinemic-Euglycemic clamp" test which will demonstrate "insulin resistance" if it exists.

You may have a problem finding somewhere that will do this test and it will be expensive.
