KBank says Thai economy will improve slightly next year

BANGKOK, 11 November 2015 (NNT) - An economist from Kasikorn Bank (KBank) has forecast that the Thai economy will perform slightly better next year, as national reform is still being implemented.

According to Head of KBank Capital-Market Research Department Kobsit Silpachai, the economy has been predicted to grow 2.8% next year, and it will grow more than 3% if all government’s economic stimulus measures are carried out successfully.

The export sector is also expected to grow from a contraction of 5% this year to flat growth the following year, as the Thai baht is likely to weaken to 38 baht per US dollar.

Mr. Kobsit further stated the political situation still plays an important role in domestic investments. Investors tend to be reluctant to pursue any investment plan if they are unclear about the direction of Thai politics.

Did someone say that Thailand will build an Aqua Duct so flood waters can be used to fill the NE so simple rice farmers can plant twice a year? If not, GDP comes from where? When will our country geostrategically invest? Rice mills that can pay 11 baht to my mother for great Hom Rice and sell for 38 baht. Ihave to learn what shucking is about.

More fantasy from NNT!

They’re reporting that Kobsit Silpachai, Head of KBank Capital-Market Research Department has “predicted” 2.8% growth next year! Mind you, there is no mention of how this figure was derived, but my guess is (not a government astrologer but) his lady-friend Madam Zelda had a hand in it:

If the first statement is not enough to have you scratching your head in stunned amazement, then wait, it gets even more fanciful. We are also told of growth more than 3% if all government’s economic stimulus measures are carried out successfully. Now, that really is fantasy!

The only piece of reality in this post is that investors tend to be reluctant to pursue any investment plan if they are unclear about the direction of Thai politics! Unfortunately, not even Madam Zelda can tell us where the junta's roadmap will lead us.

Even the Junta haven't got a clue where they are going so what hope do potential foreign investors have. What government stimulus measures are they talking about? They don't have any. When a minister comes out with a hot air statement it is usually contradicted by another clown of a minister so that the right hand doesn't have a clue what the lefty hand is doing. They will never learn so will continue to seep into the mud until there is a civil war.

“the economy has been predicted to grow 2.8% next year and it will grow more than 3% if all government’s economic stimulus measures are carried out successfully.”

This forecast is not a signal for economic success:

Bank of Thailand's Monetary Policy Committee forecast for 2016 is maintained at 3.9%

World Bank forecasts growth in 2016 at 4.2%

UN’s Economic and Social Survey forecasts 3.9-4% economic growth rate in 2016

The Monetary Policy Committee forecast economic growth rate of 4.1% in 2016

HSBC forecasts economic growth rate of 3.3% in 2016

The Asian Development Bank forecast economic growth rate at 3.8% in 2016

IMF forecast economic growth rate at 3.2% in 2016

Thailand’s Fiscal Policy Office forecast of 3.8% for the country’s GDP growth in 2016

If the current government’ economic stimulus is only able to increase the economic growth rate by only 0.2% in 2016 when the government budget represents 20% of the nation’s GDP, it might as well use the funds to throw a happiness party.

Compare Thailand to the forecast economic growth rate in 2016 by IMF and UN’s Economic and Social Survey for ASEAN-5 as a whole at 4.9%. Foreign investors will not be coming to Thailand for higher returns.

how about this. eliminate the entire military. except for a modern coast guard, border patrol and a disaster relief unit with a very small air force for airlifting.

and fire the entire police force. they are only good for blocking traffic on the main highways with their stupid checkpoints.

instead of "stimulus" which is just tax money and creates more debt and causes economic problems in the future, take the military and police budget and build a state of the art water distribution and flood control system for agriculture, and a modern railroad. And teach everybody to speak English and to frickin' drive.

oh never mind.
