Egypt releases human rights activist

CAIRO: -- Egypt’s military have released a leading investigative journalist and human rights advocate who had been detained under accusations of spreading “false news”.

Hossam Bahgat had written a report about 26 officers he’s said had been convicted by a military court of plotting a coup.

Its not known if he will still face a trial.

Following Bahgat’s arrest, several human rights groups and the United Nations criticised the arrest, saying it was further evidence the government was looking to repress independent journalism and civil society
