KRABI: -- A speedboat captain was forced to beach his boat full of Chinese tourists after it started taking on water in Phang Nga Bay yesterday.

“The boat, Nong Hong Te, started taking on water at about 6:20pm near Koh Kai [Chicken Island] during a day-trip from Krabi,” explained Krabi Marine Police Chief Anurak Parinyasathiragul.

“The captain decided that the best thing to do was beach the boat so the tourists and crew could safely disembark.”

PHUKET: -- Quick action by a speedboat captain ensured the safe recovery of eight Chinese tourists and three crew from his sinking speedboat off Koh Khai in Krabi yesterday evening (Nov 11).

The speedboat, named the Nong Hongtae, was carrying three women and five men Chinese tourists when it struck a submerged rock one nautical mile off Koh Khai, reported Nitiphat Mongkulpradit, chief of the Krabi Tourist Rescue Centre.

The tourists were returning to Klong Muang in Krabi from a day trip to Phi Phi Island and had just departed sightseeing at Koh Khai when the boat hit the rock and began to quickly take on water, he said.

Well done !

No!

Someone making a living from boating, shouldn't make such a navigational error ....

Hope they return to China and spread the story around about faulty boats that sink, and hopefully that news will deter a small portion of the Chinese hordes.

are these boats checked for seaworthiness if not then they should be any vessel large or small dealing with tourists should be inspected on a regular basis .

and how do you inspect them for hitting things in the water? theres all kinds of crap in the sea and it doesnt take much to hole a fast moving boat. plastic or wooden pallets float around every where down there and cant be seen once the boat is on the plane and bow up.....

even seaworthy boats sink if you hit rocks - or icebergs - with them

This rock is marked on all nautical paper and electronic Navionics charts.
