CityNews – November 11th, police region 5 and officials from the Centre for the Protection of Children, Women, and Families arrested a 63-year-old Italian man on charges relating to child prostitution and sex with girls aged under the age of 15 in his room in a condominium on Huay Kaew road in Chang Phuak area.

The arrest follows the investigation of numerous previous prostitution cases where this man’s name had repeatedly appeared.

Wrong. A paedophile is someone who is sexually attracted to a pre-pubescent child. That's typically around age 11 and younger.

You are mixing many different terms...

A minor in Thailand is any person under 20, and here's the Wikipedia definition for age of majority: The age of majority is the threshold of adulthood as it is conceptualized (and recognized or declared) in law. It is the chronological moment when minors cease to legally be considered children and assume control over their persons, actions, and decisions, thereby terminating the legal control and legal responsibilities of their parents or guardian over and for them.....Age of majority should not be confused with the age of sexual consent, marriageable age, school leaving age, drinking age, driving age, voting age, smoking age, etc., which all may be independent of, and sometimes set at a different age from, the age of majority.

Age of sexual consent in Thailand is 15 with some limitations (such as not allowed sex for money, and the young party can change his/her mind after the fact and make a complaint against the other person - even if the other person is of the same age. 18 is the age of full sexual consent. So basically sex with a person under 18 MIGHT be in some case considered as sex with a minor. However, sex with under 15 is always an offence even if the young person consents (as legally people under 15 don't have the LEGAL capacity to consent).

I know some girls, and boys, who have FB accounts, the are 11 & 12 years old. They simply lie about their ages when they fill out their profiles.

Further, my granddaughters (Primary 3) got a new computer teacher (female about 19 years old), who in first lesson helped all the children (about 24 kids) open a fb page all with a false birthdate, just old enough to be accepted. All with real photos taken by the teacher on her smartphone. New teacher did the same for a number of classes.

Within a couple of days sure enough there were multiple new 'friends', some asking (both the school girls and boys) to meet for ice cream etc.

One parent quickly raised the alarm to the headmistress / owner of the school. Teacher was instructed to instantly cancel all the accounts and punished by the owner.

Teacher complained to several parents that it was unfair because she had done nothing wrong.

If I may correct this part,

If they are not married, and get married with all parties consent, any charges will be dropped.

In colonial times 15 would be over the hill. From a evolutionary perspective, why do girls get there ability to become pregnant below the age of consent? Nature seems to disagree with the law. What is the status? I don't know the facts, but would be interested to know if VT members are assuming he is guilty, or know he is guilty.

If guilty, then I hope he gets what he deserves. But if innocent, then he too becomes a victim of sorts.

As for Thailand's laws, re 13 yrs old age of consent if married - never knew that - that in my mind is itself a legalised form of paedophilia, which is very "medieval". I just don't think that even the best educated girls in the world could really have the life experience, maturity and self awareness etc, to enter into married life and all the rest of it - certainly not going to be confident and mature enough to enforce their right to make decisions about reproduction etc. How much of this is going on in the "villages"? Studies show that liberation of women's rights to make such decisions are accompanied by higher national productivity and GDP. Is this a BIG problem that needs addressing in Thailand?
