PM orders related ministries to improve water storage in Ubon Ratchathani

UBON RATCHATHANI, 12 November 2015 (NNT) – The Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives have been assigned by the Prime Minister to come up with ways to raise the water storage capacity of Ubon Ratchathani province.

While in Ubon Ratchathani for a meeting with the joint public-private committee in charge of tackling economic problems in the Lower Northeast, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha expressed his concerns over the water situation in the province. He tasked the Interior Ministry and the Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry with finding measures to increase local water reserves and ensure efficient water management.

The Prime Minister asked local agriculturists for their cooperation in heeding the official report in regard to the amount of water available in each area before deciding to begin their cultivation. He suggested the farmers to plant only crops that are suitable for their locality while insisting that agricultural products should be produced in line with market demands.

On this occasion, Gen Prayut also showed appreciation to farmers who have voluntarily changed the types of their crops so as to help save water during the dry season.

Farmers in isaan are lightyears ahead of this government on growing crops with no water. They get the only the seasonal rains and all the governments built dams in the north and central Thailand and said stuff it isaan.

Here we go again. PM orders this or that, demands that or this. After 18 months still hasn't learned unlike the pure military simply commanding something does not guarantee results. Buffoon.

Too little, too late, this should have been done in the rainy season,

now the rains have ended they want to store water !

So basically P is having to order people to do their jobs. Why bother keeping them if they haven't been doing their jobs already? Surely this drought has been talked about at least a year already and plans should have been made prior to any such drought. Doing something now is the same as washing your car when their is a thunderstorm overhead.

Wow. What happen to all that rain water that hit Thailand last 2-3 month? Here in Patong we were flooded. And I think the NE had more since they are on the cutting edge of all storms. Infastructure suppose to mean a degree of predictive foresight, yeah? I refuse to recant my feelings how we all state these coconuts. But, damn, if lessons learn isn't a part of our credo, thank god for Honda building a new track. Cause, I don't know what to grow with no water.

The truth is that Thaksin let the elites know...you have to take care of all your people.

I don't care that he's gone. I don't care he was here. i am notr allowed to be involved in politics here, and that is proper. My opinions I speak on TVF are not ones I ever speak to Thais, not even my wife. To me, it is like being invited for a family dinner and taking a side in an argument. I do NOT have that privileged

.

The average Thai wants to feed their family and be happy. They are like people in the West. They don't care who is in control as long as their lives and loved ones are safeguarded, and they can prosper.

If Thailand became Communist and her people were happy I would not care, at all. I think Thaksin might have been an American push, and I don't like that.

Some Americans that live here just want Thai people to be fed, clothed, and have a chance for advancement (if they earn it).

I am one of those. If Thai people are happy with Thailand, I am happy with Thailand. Screw Western influences. They are their own people, and should be.

Both Americans and Chinese are very interested in Thailand, and the Thais are "playing both sides against the middle".

Good. That is smart.

I am proud of them for that.

Every whine, complaint or whinge I have heard about Thailand came from people who could not exploit Thais for money or their own agendas. Get over it. This is Thailand.

Some people love Thailand who are not Thai.

I am one of them.

Always just quick fix solutions. What next, everyone needing to buy those big jars to store water in?

I already have 27 and up here they are called "ongs". They generally hold about 1,700 litres and about 1,500 usable litres.

They cost around 1,000 thb each.

Sadly my 27 were not enough this year as the government water supply went off around mid January and didn't come back until mid August. While the water was off we were supplied by the local fire truck every 2 to 3 weeks for free and if we wanted more it could be bought at 50 baht per 1,000 litres.

Next year will be worse.
