Livestock Dept will ask govt. to continue 1 Million Cows project

The Director-General of the Livestock Department, Mr. Yukol Limlaemthong, will propose to the new government to carry on the “One Million Cows” project, after he has found out that over 400,000 farmers are compatible with this policy.

Mr. Yukol said he will also submit the proposal to extend this project from 2008 to 2010 as during the first year of implementation, the target of providing 500,000 cows to 250,000 farmers has not met. Until now, only 17,000 cows have been given to them due to the problems of determining the project framework and the initial prices.

Mr. Yukol said he will have to wait for the government’s decision of whether the project will be temporarily halted, canceled, or carried on.

Personally, he views that the project should be continued as more 400,000 farmers would like to participate in this agricultural program.
