CDC: Political parties capable of selecting PM

BANGKOK, 14 November 2015 (NNT) – The chairperson of the Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) believes political parties have the ability to judge and select potential candidates for prime minister.

Following an outcry over an idea to have names of candidates running for prime minister announced to the public prior to general elections, CDC chairperson Meechai Ruchupan said there are no logical reasons not to agree with the idea as he strongly believes political parties will nominate good and potential candidates to run the administration.

To have candidates’ names announced before the poll, critics said it could open doors for outsiders to intervene or even manipulate political parties.

Mr Meechai also made known that members of the charter drafting team had agreed that the power of impeachment should be granted to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), instead of the Senate, due to the fact that the decisions of the Upper House could be influenced by political groups. He, however, said although the NACC will have power to impeach an official, it does not mean that the final verdict will be in the hands of the anti-graft body.

Either this CDC isn't on the same planet or they are only there because they are mates or friends of mates , because they are not there because of brains, the general consensus is the People want to Elect their own Prime Minister who is a leader of a party, plain and simple.......................coffee1.gif

Yes, this is all about what Meechai BELIEVES. And now he has decided that the Senate, regardless of how its membership will be made, cannot be trusted to deliver impeachment.

It's not what the electorate believes nor will they have the power to decide. That power belongs only to Meechai and his masters. Meechai is radicalizing the draft constitution beyond the original draft instead of reconcliation with the public to repair the original draft as a more democratic institution.

It could even be concievable that the CDC has observed just how self serving the present system, including the senate operates and are proposing a way to eliminate another bolt hole that was put in for the intended purpose of being there to cover the backsides and ill gotten assets of the ones who intended and have been, abusing the system.

Checks and balances must change as a society changes and becomes more (what some call modern) in todays changing world of thinking, knowledge and legal as well as illegal thinking and procedures and actions of those, involved in the latter three.

as hard as it may be ... I believe that this CDC chair will be nuttier than the last...

Hang on Thailand, these guys are rolling a super turd for you to swallow...

Patronising 'chilli'!

Tick tock, tick tock..............fear not.

Thailand will eventually have a democratic constitution, free elections and an open society.

We must all simply endure this last, dying gasp from an unwanted elite of a bygone era for a small while yet.

As democracy flourishes next door and "the lady" frees Myanmar from its military dictatorship - more and more Thais will become more and more impatient for their own freedom (and a few less unexplained deaths in custody).

Tick tock, tick tock Generals.

it is what any decent human being wants and craves and is a BASIC human right

once the dinosaurs have gone there is a chance, despite the bleating of some right wing TVF posters, who seem to relish the feudal enslavement of the Thai people

Well Thailand hasn't got this system so what are you talking about? In the old process people voted for a party and then the party decided who became PM and it's not always the head of the party
