Britain and India have signed business deals worth more than nine billion pounds (12.7 billion euros) during a visit to the UK by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who got a warm welcome from David Cameron.

His British counterpart has tried to cultivate closer ties with India at a time when Modi has been prioritising other relationships.

The two sides signed a civil nuclear pact and decided to collaborate in the field of defence and cyber security.

They also launched a rupee bond for Indian railways; Cameron says he wants to support India’s efforts to improve its infrastructure.

Among more than 20 deals is a 1.3 billion pound (1.8 billion euros) investment by Vodafone in India.

Indian businesses in the UK employ some 110,000 people, 65,000 for the Tata group.

The visit has been met with protests over India’s human rights record and Modi’s stance.

Immigration restrictions towards Indian students have also been criticised.

Just a thought but does anyone know if Britain still gives India aide ?

I remember a couple of years ago it was announced the aide package would be gradually phased out. Complaints at the time were that India was boasting about being rich, was in space etc etc but Britain was still helping with basics such as education and medical care in poor rural areas.

The BBC has reported that Britain isn't as popular with students seeking higher education and featured a lady complaining about how much she paid to study for a good degree but then wasn't automatically allowed to stay on and work. Poor girl had to take her good degree and go home.

Would be odd to still give aid to a country that some consider will supplant both the U.S. and China as the next superpower.

Camoron was informed by the Palace and the FO that dinner with HM, and a RAF flypast were only for visiting heads of state, But he is so desperate for anything that looks good, after his pathetic showing with the EU, that he stamped his feet and demanded the bells and whistles.
