Trying to work out my Best option, for extension.

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I'm just trying to work out my best option....

I came in on a 90 day non-imm O based on Marriage. Which will expire 12th Dec.

I was staying at the wife's Parent's house in Ubon Ratchathani and origionally intended to stay there indefinitely. But it wasn't working out so well, so we took a road trip around Thailand.

We are now in Krabi province and the wife is applying for jobs in hotels.

I'm trying to work out my best options for visa/extension.

My understanding is that I will need proof of residence for a 1yr extension based on marriage, but we are staying in cheap hotels, until we know that we are gonna stay here (lanta)... so can I get an extension here in krabi while stayin in hotels, or would I need to rent a room first?

If the wife doesn't get a job here, we'll go somewhere else.

If I get an extension in Krabi, what happens with reporting and stuff if we move somewhere else? Do I need to report in Krabi?

Would it be better to go back to Ubon Ratchathani and get the extension there, as they already have me on file?

I may need to leave thailand a few times over the next 12 months so was looking at re-entry permit. How much are they and how many entries do they give?

Would I be better with new Multi Entry non-im O?

How many entries do I get with 12 month multi entry non-imm O visa?

Would I be able to come in and out of Thailand as I please, and move around with no 90 day reporting?

With Multi entry visa, does the 90 days reset on each entry?

If I get multi entry visa and stay in Krabi, can I do out/in to Malaysia?

Last thing, If i do multi entry, can I drive my car across borders into Lao, Cambodia and Malaysia, for visa runs?

Thanks in advance,

Si

It seems for now your best option would be to get a 60 day extension to visit you wife. By then perhaps you will have a better Idea where you will be staying.

I suggest you not to try and get the one year extension until you have a permanent place to stay. You would have to make the 90 day reports to where you get the extension unless you formally change your address.

Once you have the extension you can get a multiple re-entry permit that allows unlimited entries for the length of you extension. The fee is 3800 baht.

You could get a multiple entry non-o visa that would allow unlimited 90 day entries for a year from the date of issue. There would be no 90 day reporting since you would not be able to stay longer than 90 days. You could stay where ever you want to. You could do a border hop at any crossing to get a new entry.

Unless you plan on staying out of the country for longer than it takes to leave the country, enter another country and then turn around and come back for a new entry it would not be practical to take you car across the border to do it.

Every country has different requirements to take your car into them and none of them or Thailand has any requirement for a visa of any type to do it.

How much are they and how many entries do they give?

Single re-entry permit is 1,000 baht.

Multiple re-entry permit is 3,800 baht.

Would I be better with new Multi Entry non-im O?

Initially you could do as suggested by Ubonjoe and get a 60 day extension of stay (1,900 baht). Towards the end of that 60 days you can decide on getting a 1 year extension or going out for a 1 year non 'O'.

You can get a multiple entry non 'O' from Savannakhet Laos. Easy application with no need for any financial proof.

How many entries do I get with 12 month multi entry non-imm O visa?

Unlimited entries.

Would I be able to come in and out of Thailand as I please, and move around with no 90 day reporting?

Yes but you are limited to a maximum 90 day stay on each entry. Each entry can be extended by 60 days.

No 90 day reporting even if you extend your stay.

With Multi entry visa, does the 90 days reset on each entry?

Yes.

If I get multi entry visa and stay in Krabi, can I do out/in to Malaysia?

Yes. Any border crossing.

Last thing, If i do multi entry, can I drive my car across borders into Lao, Cambodia and Malaysia, for visa runs?

Yes, but you will need to get a passport for your car from the Department of Transport office. Plus insurance or other requirements required by the country you visit.

If you enter near to the expiry date of the 1 year non 'O' visa you are granted the full 90 days which you can also extend for 60 days. So the visa/extension of stay gives you nearly 17 months before needing to get a new visa.

Ok great, thanks guys, sounds like 60 day extension is best option until i get more settled.

Can i get another 60 days extension at the end of the first 60 day extension?

only one wife extension per entry to Thailand,

i think you should look at going to Savannakhet and getting a one year multi entry non immigrant 'o' visa with no financial proof required, this gives you a 90 day permission to stay stamp on each entry into Thailand, if used just prior to the one year expiry date another 90 day entry would be given, giving you 15 months use from the visa, and if the last entry is extended would be good for 17 months, by that time you should be more settled and could then rethink the yearly extension

only one wife extension per entry to Thailand,

This has confused me now... lol

So how would I go about getting a 1 yr extension, towards the end of the 60 day extension, as recommended by elviajero?

  • Only one 60 day extension is allowed per entry.
  • If you extend a 90 day stay by 60 days you can still apply for a 1 year extension at the end of the 60 days. However, you can't apply for a second 60 day extension.
  • Any entry granted by the non 'O' visa can be extended once by 60 days.

Great, thanks for the clarification!

If i go for the 60 days on Monday. Will they give me 60 days from then, or will they give me 60 days from the end of my current permission to stay?

All extensions start from the date your current permit to stay ends.

Great, thanks! That's what I assumed, but I don't like to assume anything here!

Do all owners of accommodation need to report to immigration that they have an Alien on their property? For all aliens?

I went to Krabi immigration yestarday to sort the 60 day extension. They tell me I need a report for my accommodation... Turns out the hotel/apartments im staying at dont file the tm30 or report online...

When i spoke to the owner, she said they don't need to do it if they have less than 10 rooms... and they only have 8, so no need.

My wife explained that I need them to report my stay to immigration and the owner has agreed to fill in a tm30 for me to take to immigration next week.

Will this be a problem for me or cause any problems for the resort owner?

It appears none of the places Ive stayed in past month have reported my stays....

  • Yes the owner is responsible for reporting every foreigner that strays at their property.
  • There is no exemption for hotels with less than 10 rooms. Although the local immigration might apply a local rule.
  • The owner might get fined for not submitting the TM30. But if a local rule exists they have nothing to worry about.

All must do the report. Perhaps they cannot register for the online reporting if they have less than 10 rooms.

You should not be fined since it is the owners responsibility. Immigration probably will not fine the owner either since they filled out the form for you.

Need help!

Ok, the hotel/apartment refused to do the TM30, so I've been waiting to move into a new room, before getting a 2 month extension.

However my marriage has been on the rocks since I got to Thailand... I have been trying to save it, but I can't do it alone... I've finally thrown in the towel today...

So, I came in on 3 month single Non-imm O visa based on marriage. Which expires on 12th December.

I am in Koh Lanta. What is my best and cheapest option to stay??

Unless your wife cooperates you have no chance of obtaining an extension of stay.

If you have signed copies of your wife's ID card and housebook together with the actual marriage certificate (+ a copy) you may be able to obtain a 12 month multi entry "O" visa based on marriage in Savannakhet.

The only other option would be a single entry tourist visa obtained from a nearby Thai Embassy/Consulate.

If you can show 100k baht or more in the bank or proof of income you can get a multiple entry non-o visa based upon marriage in Penang. Or Savannakhet with no financial proof needed.

Proof of finances isn't a problem, but the marriage is.

What else would I need to show? I only have marriage certificate. No tabien baan or wifes ID...

Would the visa stay valid if we get divorced?

We have gone separate ways already today...

It is doubtful if a visa based on marriage could be obtained without signed copies of the wife's ID and Tabian Ban

Visas always remain valid up to the expiry date.

Without your wife's help you will have to leave on or before Dec 12th.

If you can get signed copies of her ID and Tabien Baan then you could get a new non 'O' visa. Otherwise your options are tourist visas or a non 'ED'.

The wife won't help me... she likes to make everything as difficult as possible...

Trip to Penang for tourist visa seems to be my cheapest option...

Anyone been to Penang or have details?

I just been talking to a Thai guy that works for the only company on lanta that does a 'VISA' trip to Penang... but they only do one way... so I have to find my own way back!

The same guy insists I can get a new VISA at Wang Prachan, but that sounds wrong to me, anyone know if this is true?

What do I need to get a tourist visa from Penang? Can I get forms there or do I need to prepare everything before I go?

Do I need any kind of visa to cross into Malaysia?

The visa run guy is probably talking about doing a border hop for a visa exempt entry. I think you are from a G7 country that gets 30 days at a border crossing. You could then get a 30 day extension of that entry at an immigration office for a fee of 1900 baht.

All you need is your passport and copy of the photo page and this application form for Penang. Penang.pdf Most people use an agent that can do the application for you and then pick it up the next day. No need to go to the consulate.

Yeah, I thought he maybe meant doing a re-entry with visa exempt, but he insisted that the office at Wang Prachan is same same the office in Penang... can do all the same things... think hes mistaken, but always better to check!

Thanks for the form!

How would I find an agent?

Most hotels have agents that work with them. The Banana guest house and Jim's place are well known as being good..

Can I apply for Multiple entry touist visa from Penang?

You will need nothing more than the application form and your passport plus a copy of the photo page.

Thanks,

and can I get multi entry? Looking on the website, I can... But, I see on here that Multi entry would be for Malay residents only?

They will only do a multiple entry tourist visa for Malaysians and residents.

The website is badly written and confusing. They've lumped the METV and SETV together but they have different criteria. Unfortunately only SETV's are available unless you're Malay or have residency.
