VN fishermen arrested

BANGKOK: Second Naval Area Command officers on the HTMS Kamronsin have impounded a Vietnamese fishing trawler along with its four crewmembers for intrusion while hunting for sea cucumbers in the Malaysia-Thailand Joint Development Area in the Gulf of Thailand.

The trawler and crewmembers from Kamao City in Vietnam were brought to the Songkhla Naval Base yesterday morning.

They face charges under the Immigration Act 1979 and the Act Governing the Right to Fish in Thai Fishery Waters 1939. This is the fifth arrest of Vietnamese boats intruding on Thai waters this fiscal year.

What? You didn't shoot at them this time. Don't worry, we'll soon have subs so that we can blow them out of the water.

Another chance for the RTN to demonstrate (questionable) proficiency!

Make sure you keep a close watch on these guys, we don't want to hear that they (like another seized vessel) escaped in the night.

We don't want to hear statements similar to the following again: “The ship is gone, it just disappeared in the blink of an eye”. (see http://www.phuketgazette.net/phuket-news/Seized-toothfish-ship-flees-Phuket-illegal-cargo/61915?desktopversion#ad-image-0)

And what about slave labour on Thai fishing vessels in Thai and international waters?
