Min of Defense beefs up security, detains suspects ahead of Loy Krathong

Bangkok, 23 November 2015 (NNT) - The Ministry of Defense has detained several suspects for conspiring to commit public disturbances during the upcoming Loy Krathong festival.

Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan has announced that suspects have been taken into police custody in the northeastern region. He stated only that some irregularities had raised concerns of a plot to cause a public disturbance during the major festivities.

Regarding safety measures during the Loy Krathong festival, Gen Prawit said security forces have completed preparations to ensure public safety starting from the BIKE FOR DAD event until the New Year.

Several government agencies have been collaborating to ensure public safety, including the National Council for Peace and Order, the Royal Thai Police, and the Ministry of Interior.

Yes, I'm sure it's all done in the interest of public safety!

Nana plaza had beefed up securitee tonight. Not a great place to be if public disturbance happens.

a plot to cause a public disturbance during the major festivities - BIKE FOR DEMOCRACY?

Since no one has applied for approval to organise such event it would be a public disturbance indeed.

BTW you're getting a bit frivolous distorting the 'Bike for Dad' event.

Since no one else seems to care (or notice?) let me ask the question.

Why did the Ministry of Defence detain suspects? Why was such not done by the police with or without assistance of military personel?
