B-Visum Special case

Featured Replies

Hello,

short introduction: I am owner of a company importing items from Thailand. Therefore I come to Thailand twice a year, normaly with the 30-day stamp. This time I have to stay longer, as we want to establish a project in Thailand. I am away frome home now for several month and therefore it was not possible for me to apply for a B-visum in my home country in Europe. I got a letter of recommendation from the Thai embassy in my home country telling that I am well known to the embassy and that they support the project I want to establish. I tried to apply for a multy entry B-Visum in Hongkong. Unfortunately they wanted to have additional documents from the companies in Thailand cooperating with my company. As my flight is departing quite soon, it is not possible to get these documents to Hong Kong in time. They also said they can only issue a 90-day single entry visa as they are only a consulate and not an embassy. Therefore think about entering Thailand with the 30-day stamp and try to apply for a B-visa in Malaysia or somewhere else in Asia later on. I am not sure if that is a good idea, but I also do not know if there are better choices. Is it possible to get a B-visa (multi-entry) away from my home country and which embassy would be the best for this purpose. Any help would be appreciated.

You cannot get a a single entry non-b visa at any nearby location without a work permit application approval letter.

You will not a get a multiple entry non-b visa within the region. Penang does them but only if you have a work permit valid for 8 months.

Thank you very much for your reply.

Is this even the case if I do not want to work in Thailand but only do business?

The Hong Kong consulate said, they would give us a single entry if we have some original documents from our business partners.

Hong Kong is the only location within the region that has been recently reported as doing a non-b visa without a work permit or a work permit application approval letter.

There is a very fine line between doing business and working here.

Thank you. That is very helpfull. So maybe it would be a good idea to stay here until we worked out our things here. If we have an initial non-b visa would it be possible to do extensions for up to 8 months?

You can only get an extension if you have a work permit and are working for a Thai registered company.

O.K. I see. Probably in my case it would be easier if I was a tourist. I will try to get the 3 month non B here in Hong Kong anyway. Thank you for the help.

Thank you for all the hints. We decided to apply for the business visum here in Hong Kong. Anyway ... For no reason we are working in means of earning money in Thailand. We are buying items in Thailand and sell them in Europe. This is business and not work. So no matter what happens we should not get into problems. But thanks anyway. This might be helpfull for somebody getting the wrong ideas.
