BANGKOK: -- Red-shirt co-leaders Jatuporn Promphan and Natthawut Saikua showed up at the Justice Ministry this afternoon (Wednesday) to provide information about suspected irregularities in the construction of the Rajabhakti park project to Justice Minister Paiboon Kumchaya in his capacity as head of the National Anti-Corruption Centre.

Also present at the meeting to acknowledge the information from the chairman and secretary-general of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship were Vice Minister General Niwat Menayothin, auditor-general Phisit Leelawachiropas and Mr Chatchai Yod-udom, deputy secretary-general of the government sector’s anti-corruption committee.

No details of the information provided by the two UDD leaders were available.

The special session was initiated by the justice minister after the duo’s planned visit to the Rajabhakti Park last week was foiled by the military.

Justice minister confident park’s culprits will be exposed

BANGKOK: -- Justice Minister Paiboon Kumchaya is confident that the culprits in the Rajabhakti park scandal will be exposed and dealt with as a result of the ongoing investigation.

The minister thanked red-shirt leaders Jatuporn Promphan and Natthawut Saikua for offering their evidences to him, saying that their move providing another channel through which the investigators can obtain information which may be helpful in their probe.

He said that the evidences presented by the two leaders of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship were not significant but were mostly observations which could be clues for investigation.

The minister who is chairman of the newly-formed National Anti-Corruption Centre said that most of the evidences pertaining to the project were already in the hands of the army. Nevertheless, he said the UDD’s evidences could be useful.

Both Jatuporn and Natthawut reportedly told General Paiboon that their move to probe into the scandal was not politically motivated but merely intended to expose the wrongdoers and to bring them to justice, said the justice minister.

He went on saying that public donations still continue to pour into the Rajabhakti Park Foundation and he would like the Auditor-General’s Office to set a deadline for an end to donations so that the OAG can start its own probe.

The minister also extended an invitation for members of the Democracy Studies Group to meet with him and to present their evidences in the same way as the UDD did.

If they are genuinely determined to find out the truth about the project, they should cooperate with the government instead of causing public confusion, said the general.

But if YL or another redshirt shirt was in charge this would NEVER have happened. They turn a blind eye to their own corruption

Yup. Its called politics. Politics has nothing to do with the truth; its more about your 'political agenda'. These two are far from squeaky clean.

Maybe, just maybe, the UDD submission would be more credible and carry more weight if they'd used anyone but these two to act as representatives.

All this is does is give these thugs a chance for publicity so they can look important and relevant.

It's easier for the junta to jump all over students than those who really need it.

Wouldn't it be ironic, even poetic justice, if the repression and strong arming of students, FB users and, without being deameaning, the ' ordinary ' people accelerated the junta's demise ?

Why is it two red shirts leaders have to bring this alleged corruption evidence to the current junta lead government? This junta lead government is supposed to be vehemently fighting corruption. They should have jumped on this big time the minute there was any mention of corruption, by instigating a full-blown investigation, especially since some military leaders may be involved.

And the same thing goes for the allegations about millions of baht being allocated to buy musical instrument (at inflated prices) for schools that don’t have any teachers to teach music. There is more than enough allegations with enough clues to stick their teeth into a thorough investigation.

That is, if the current government is telling the truth and they really do want to stamp out corruption. Goodness knows they have lots of targets to shoot for.

It shouldn't matter who this comes from. What should matter is whether or not it is true. Given people are fleeing the country, it likely is. Is their move politically motivated? Absolutely. It exposes the hyprocrisy of the current government. That doesn't make it any less of a scandal. And the governments efforts to cover it up only backs that up.

Prayut's hesitation on this allegation of military corruption is disconcernting.

He has no problems on investigating secret lists of people assembled by the NCPO being suspected of corruption provided by unidentified persons with no evidence. He doesn't even need to know the specific allegations as they are never conveyed to the accused other than these are "bad" persons. Those people are summarily relieved of their duties and removed to inactive stations without due process of law.

Yet it seems when it comes to allegations against military/Prayut government officials, he demands full development of hard evidence and specific allegations of corruption before conceding charges. At least for now nonmilllitary Justice Minister Paiboon Kumchaya in his capacity as head of the NACC is willing to pursue a degree of investigation. That will likely more upset Prayut than any concrete evidence.

Why don't we have a list of what evidence they have presented ?.

Given their attempts to make this as public as possible, I would have expected it to be all over the internet.

Links please red-shirts. I'm interested to know what they have which was worth all this effort.

Or is it so insignificant, they don't want us to know ?.

This government is told to do this, do that and show results yesterday. I guess similar to what people asked and expected from the previous, elected government.

Anyway, info presented, but no paperwork visible on the photo's. Does that mean the info was presented verbally?
