  • You can get a single entry non 'O' visa with your childs original birth certificate.
  • However, if you a planning to apply for a 1 year extension of stay on the basis of being the parent of a Thai, you will need to be the legal father (assuming you're not married). Being named on the birth certificate doesn't qualify. Given the childs age you would need to do that via the court. Easily done with the mothers consent/cooperation.
  • Once you are a legal father you can apply within the last 30 days of the 90 day permit to stay given on entry with the non 'O' visa, and you will need,
    • Form TM7
    • 400k in a Thai bank on the day of application (Updated bank book and letter from the bank confirming the balance) or a monthly certified income of 40k pm.
    • The original birth certificate plus copy.
    • Original and copies of court papers confirming your legal status.
    • A signed copy of the mothers ID.
    • A signed copy the mothers house book (Tabien Baan).
    • Copy of the child's house book.
    • A copy of your passport photo page. arrival stamp, visa, departure card.
    • Maybe a TM30 completed by the owner of the property you live at with copies of their signed ID and house book.
    • Passport photo
    • 1,900 baht
    • Your child.

Note that you can get a 60 day extension of stay with only the birth certificate, so if necessary you can extend your non 'O' 90 day stay by a further 60 days and then apply for the 1 year extension. 60 day extensions can only be done once per entry.

For a 60 day extension for the reason to visit your child. You can apply towards the end of the 90 days from your local immigration office. The extension starts from the end of the 90 days so nothing is lost by applying early. No border run needed.

  • Form TM7
  • The original birth certificate plus copy.

  • Your child.

For the non 'O' visa,

  • Visa application form.
  • The original birth certificate plus copy.
  • A signed copy of the mothers ID.
  • A signed copy the mothers house book (Tabien Baan).
  • Copy of the child's house book.
  • A copy of your passport photo page.
  • 2 x Passport photos.
  • 2,000 baht
