American Peadophile Arrested in Mae Taeng

CityNews – A 67-year-old American man living in Mae Taeng was arrested on December 15 for child abuse charges after a long investigation with Thai Police and America’s Department of Special Investigation.

James Craig Neumann was taken into custody after being charged for having sex with underage boys and sharing child pornography images online.

Neumann used to work as an English teacher in Thailand before retiring in Mae Teng. According to investigations, he often enticed young boys to come and play at his house where he would then photograph them and have sex with them.

He was finally identified after he shared some explicit images on Facebook.

I think you should reconsider your circle of friends/acquaintances and hang out with different people. No offense to pedophiles, who I am sure are often nice people who do horrible things. Kudos! They abound on TV...., claiming to speak the King's English yet they misuse and even bastardize it beyond compare. I'll match my American taught English skills to most UK people I meet, both written and verbal. Statistics are apt, but based on "Reported" cases and proven cases, not on the actual number of children being sexually assaulted. Men are stigmatized if they are victims of a homosexual assault, so they remain quiet about having been molested due to shame. This also has been noted, and should be a factor in consideration of the gamut of victims and not on who reports cases and which cases are "proven". Stranger-upon-stranger rape and sexual assault is more difficult to prove, but within a family the situation is often repeated and thus the frequency allows for more evidence and for more witnesses.

A bit of a reach there, mate. Americans, by and large, as with Brits, could barely teach anyone to find their own <deleted> with two hands and a flashlight, let alone to communicate in a god-forsaken second language. However, there are native speakers in each country (among others) that actually have insight into the mechanics and cultural nuance surrounding language, and thus are invaluable to the overall learning process. While there are Brits who could perhaps teach circles around some Americans, the numbers as of yet, aren't overly concerning. Just for sh*ts and giggles, guess which "brand" of English is most often requested by students in the Kingdom?

Generally true world-wide. American spellings and grammar are preferred and often mandated ... often to the chagrin of English teachers of English. The reason students want to learn English, assuming they care at all, is to gain access to greater stores of information on the Internet, to be able to do more extensive research in areas of study such as the sciences and business, to improve employment opportunities, etc. For practical reasons, if it matters at all, American English serves those purposes quite adequately.

No one wants to learn English in the hopes of sounding either like an elderly constipated BBC announcer or a resident of Buckingham Palace.

If posters on TV are any indication, a failure to have mastered their mother tongue is fairly common among NES, whether British or American and especially acute among those seeking positions as teachers in Thailand. Assuming that someone who happened to be born in England is better able to teach the language is ridiculous.
