FWIW Retirement Extension report, Jomtien

I got my first ever Non-Immigrant O visa from Vientiane this last October, a week or so after turning 50. As there are now less than 30 days left on the 90 day permission to stay stamp I have from that last entry on the O visa, it was time to apply for an extension based on retirement.

I got my papers together: Form downloaded from the internet filled out and printed, passport photo, photocopies of relevant passport pages and departure card, photocopies of my yellow book and rental agreement, and most importantly my letter from the US Embassy attesting to my income.

I arrived at Jomtien Immigration Monday afternoon and got a queue number. I had about 25 numbers in front of me so I went next door and had a snack while I waited. They make a decent mango shake there at that little cafe in the parking lot.

Went back inside maybe an hour later and it was almost my turn. When my turn did come the lady looked through my papers and had me sign a couple more attesting that I understood the penalties for overstaying and some other stuff, like not reporting relevant changes in your life that would affect visa status. She asked to see my yellow book and compared it to the copies and the rental agreement.

I paid my 1900 baht and got a chit along with instructions to return Wednesday at 3pm

Today I arrived a little early so I relaxed with another mango shake. Immigration makes for some interesting people watching. At 3pm I went inside and Traded my chit for my passport. Checked the stamp and it said permission to stay granted until Jan 4 2017. I was expecting to see a 30 day under consideration stamp but the ladies at the counter said that it was correct, but realized they had not given me a 90 reporting reminder slip. They made one of those quickly and stapled it into my passport.

The whole process was EZPZ compared to my last couple years doing the ED visa thing. It's a great feeling finally having that 1 year stamp in place.

In addition to the application for extension, did your downloaded forms and eventual submission include a TM30 form? That's the form that reports your address and would typically be done by the home owner/landlord but applicants have been asked to complete them as 'possessor' of a rented property when filing their extensions.

For extension based on retirement there is no under consideration period (except for two (?) offices which Jomtien is not among).

Not giving a 90 day slip? That means it has not been done (probably as you were too early for that, not sure).

less than 30 days left on the 90 day permission

You have to do a report when the 90 day period of your last entry is reached,

Sounds like Jan 4 your report is due (is that the date of your "ADMITTED UNTIL"?).

Grace period for report in person: two weeks before due date and 6 days after.

It sounds as though they credited him with doing his first 90 day report (sometimes done when applying for the first extension) and then gave him the reminder slip which would indicate when he next needs to do a 90 day report.

The Jan 4, 2017 date would be when his extension expires and before which he would need to renew it.

What about a condo owner? Will just the yellow book do? Should I bring the blue, too?

Welcome to the club...that simple "retirement" stamp really does change one's life in Thailand. The only downside is one has to be 50 to get it tongue.png

I just bring a copy of my Tabien Ban (blue book).

The first extension of stay counts as a 90 day report. The first report is due 90 days from the date the extension was applied for.

Different story up here in Surin. I went for my second extension on 10 November, after providing all the correct paperwork including the 800,000 baht in bank for 3 months and visiting the Immigration Crime Suppression Unit where I had to give them a map showing how to get to my house in a village I was given an "under consideration stamp" until 16 December and told to expect a visit from immigration some day. About 2 weeks later 2 IOs in a pickup arrived at my house, setup a mini office, spoke to my wife and 2 village headmen, obtained copies of their IDs, printed out a few forms got them to sign them then left after telling me to go back to the office a few days before the 16th. I returned to the office on the 15th and received my new extension stamp after about an hour.

Think I might move to Pattaya.

Just curious OP but was it easy getting a yellow book with only a rental agreement and no previous long term visa?

photocopies of my yellow book and rental agreement

PS - and at which office may I ask?

No, I did not, but I know my landlord did those forms long ago. I also had my yellow house book, that may have made a difference.

The date for 90 day reporting that they put on the slip stapled into my passport is March 12. 90 days from when i turned in the papers for the extension.

All the gritty details are in that thread, but the TLDR version is that I live in Nongprue, so I went to the Nongprue office, my landlord and the lady from the bottleshop in the corner unit of my building were the two Thai people who went with me to do the witnessing for the yellow book.

I just bring a copy of my Tabien Ban (blue book).

Blue?

Are you Thai?

The foreign owner of a condo can have a blue house book but cannot be registered in it.

Thank you for that as it eases my concern, I will be doing mine next week.

Since I have done it before I may have sufficient prior experience to say, if you expect a wait of over an hour, the next soi presents the opportunity of a nice massage to kill the time.

Mango shakes are not suitable for a Pattaya retiree!

We have a reputation to maintain on TV!

At my local tessabaan, they added my name ( in writing ) plus referenced the sales contract.
