December 17, 201510 yr How will this law be treated up country? Most villages are only a few hundred metres long with a school in the middle Sell alcoholic fluid next to the naughty motel...
December 17, 201510 yr Isn't there a big government school within 300m of walking street? I think In bkk, you can't walk 15min North south, east or West without coming into range of some type of educational or religious institution How they measure it should be interesting to watch Some lucky bar stewards will be able to to sell loads all day only 301m from a massive school and his next door neighbour might be ruined because he's 299m from same school
December 17, 201510 yr So let's not enforce the law we have let's just make ANOTHER law, I wonder if this applies to all those Bangkok street bars that open after hours.
December 17, 201510 yr Does this new law cover stores only (e.g., 7-11) or also bars and presumably restaurants as well? If the latter, take a map of Pattaya and draw a circle with a 300-meter radius with at the center the large school on the corner of Second Rd and Pattaya Tai (South). This takes in all of Walking Street, dozens of bars halfway up to Pattaya Klang (Central), every gay bar in Boyztown and Sunee, the flourishing new nightlife area around Soi Diana and LK Metro, etc. Realistic?
December 17, 201510 yr It'll be easy to see when the 300m line is. It's where the border made out of concrete tables full of empty beer and laokhau bottles is. EDIT: Ah, silly me. Naturally the point of sales is 301m away, but the helpful Somchai from the shop with his samlor will take you there and back for 10 baht. Edited December 17, 201510 yr by DrTuner
December 17, 201510 yr How will this law be treated up country? Most villages are only a few hundred metres long with a school in the middle ........plus the village temple ! Outside of those few hundred meters, tin sheds will spring up overnight like mushrooms, selling Booze. Once more, we must face the fact, that brain development here stops roughly at the age of 12. This in itself explains most things that happen here. Across the board. We should not dwell on it, just accept it. Cheers.
December 17, 201510 yr The good thing is that this law gives the school kids some exercise by walking at least 300 meter to get their drinks. no, they will jump on their motoci,s and drive to nearest outlet, maybe drink booze, this stupid law is only compounding the issue.
December 17, 201510 yr Will all the bars on Soi Bangla and 200 Year Road in Patong have to close? Probably all the bars in Patong, as there will always be a school or a temple within 300m. Bangkok will be virtually free of alcohol as there are plenty of schools less than 600m from each other. But didn't they scrap the 300m rule, in favor of something more vague, decided by the police?

Inconvenience for all, only to keep away some students from drinking. In the army language one would say with cruise missiles to go for duck hunting.
December 17, 201510 yr How will this law be treated up country? Most villages are only a few hundred metres long with a school in the middle I would say that the entire city centre of where I used to live is thus, a dry area. There must be a dozen schools of varying age ranges in the town. If anyone adds in private creches, technical colleges and the enormous university, there can't be much space left for a bar in town.
December 17, 201510 yr A 300 metre walk may seem to be much longer for some individuals. Edited December 17, 201510 yr by Radar501
December 17, 201510 yr Looks like the Imperial Queen's Park will have to stop serving alcohol, as the Sainamphung school is within 300m Presumably they stopped serving alcohol when they closed down over a year ago.
December 17, 201510 yr I stopped drinking a long long time ago,so will not effect me at all, BUT if it saves a few lives, from over consumption, health issues, road accidents, wife beatings, etc, etc, alcohol has a lot to answer for, because too many people don't know when enough is enough. regards Worgeordie

December 17, 201510 yr Better idea and easier to implement would be to open all schools and temples between 14 am and 17 pm and after midnight. 2 birds with 1 stone kind of idea.

December 17, 201510 yr It is of course complete nonsense. But with the schools I understand the argument, even it is wrong. But why temple? Because the monks sneak out and buy a beer? Wouldn't they be old enough already to decide? My local temple brews its own. It is for medicinal purposes they say.
December 17, 201510 yr Booze makes the news, another distraction created by the propaganda department. Next

Alcoholics will organize their booze anyway. b.) Drunken, sitting at home and still want more, sit on the bike and drive drunk. c.) More accidents caused by drunken coz they must drive further. d,) More senseless alcohol procurement traffic on Bangkok's congested roads e.) More extortion and corruption at the local level for exceptions. f) If someone beats his wife he will do it anyway. More trouble when no Alcohol is in the house. g) Thais will circumvent the prohibition with their inventiveness. Reducing the feeling for law if they are considered nonsensical or complicate in life. h) Many small corner shops will suffer economic ruin It would be easier to simply ask for the identity card for minors. Alcohol sales only to adults. Easy.

December 17, 201510 yr There does seem to be a get out if your a Guest house or hotel you can still sell booze. A friend of mine who owns a bar restaurant opposite a School, has turned one of his rooms into a rented one on paper things are fine. Has altered his sign to read Bar Restaurant and guest house now legal as far as the law goes. I did ask how much he was charging reply it's free but sorry to say it's always full. As the kids sleep there.

Quick thinking Thai has already circumnavigated the new law weeks before it becomes a problem Now watch the rest of the dumber ones copy his idea and by next year everyone else will be able to sell it, by hook or by crook.... Wholesale is not affected either so all they have to do is ask you to buy the whole box and that's OK too.... I've done it a few times when the were reluctant to sell just a few, I think 24 was the required amount.... But the more there is available, the more a lot of people will probably consume... Lol
December 17, 201510 yr Don't worry Thais are resourceful bas××rds and they will already be working on a way around this law.
