sulasno Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 I know I need a 4G device to use the network but do I need a 4G simcard? Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk
dddave Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 No. If your SIM is 3G voice enabled then it should work for data. If you have not set up a 3 or 4G data account with your provider, then you are usually charged between B10-B50 each time you connect to the internet. You can also buy 24 hours of 512kbps internet for about B15 using a code...for AIS it is *777*210#, limited to 250mb. If you go to your providers website, you can check out the Internet packages they offer. I pay B399 for 3gb/30 days AIS
bino Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 (edited) I had to go to TRUE and change my SIM card when I upgraded from 3G to their 4G service. Edited December 18, 2015 by bino
RichCor Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 My new i-mobile IQ II phone is LTE capable, and I have a 3G SIM from AIS. AIS is adding LTE service on 1800 (already in test/trial mode in many areas) and possibly 900 if they win the auction. AIS Website: Getting Ready for AIS 4G ADVANCED To start your new experience with AIS 4G ADVANCED, just follow these instructions; To check whether your smart devices and SIM card are compatible for the AIS 4G service, dial *987#. If your SIM card is not compatible, you can get a new SIM card at any AIS Shop, AIS Buddy or Telewiz shop nationwide, free of charge. If your device is not compatible, please check our AIS SUPER COMBO LAVA 4G device here. You must be in an area with AIS 4G ADVANCED network coverage. The service will be available on the 1800 MHz network in January 2016. My SIM is not 4G ready. Must be too many changes required preventing them from updating the SIM data remotely.

I have a dual SIM phone, LTE enabled. I had TRUE 4G as my data account (SIM-1) and used my 10 year old AIS account for voice calling, SIM-2. I had not been particularly happy with True 4G; actually 3G "H" more than half the time around Bangkok, many times very slow, not even "H". When AIS announced the deal cited by RC in the above post, I decided to try it. My True account had just lapsed because I hadn't topped it up for the monthly charge so the time was right. I switched the SIMs and used the USSB code AIS had sent in a promotional SMS. No fuss...right onto AIS 4G with no problems. While the promotion said free trial, I soon got a SMS saying: "Today you have used internet 10 Baht. If you use until 49 Baht then you can enjoy unlimited internet until midnight" ??, Looked like my free trial was not so free. I was in several areas of Bangkok the next day and everywhere I went, I had 4G...much better coverage than True and much faster downloading pages on my phone. I went to an AIS center at Terminal 21. I tried to ask about the confusing daily charges but it was very busy and the reps English was spotty so I just cut to the chase and opened a B399/mo 4G data plan which includes 3gb data.. So far, very satisfied. Service could very possibly degrade as they sign up more and more customers so time will tell. I do frequently have difficulty with AIS voice calls...long connection times and very poor voice quality...sometimes unintelligible, so I will keep my True SIM as a voice calling back-up. As I said: time will tell. Edited December 19, 2015 by dddave
dominique355 Posted December 19, 2015 Posted December 19, 2015 (edited) AIS offered me a free trial of their new 4G service. All I had to do was dialing a number. An SMS confirmed I am on.. Now I have 4G on my Samsung Note5 and in Hua Hin the speed is brilliant. Edited December 19, 2015 by dominique355
