I did a search using "marriage extension requirement". I found only two recent posts relevant, nothing the the "pinned" section.

I'm getting married and will change my Non O extension from retirement to marriage next time (especially as it's easier financially).

Can someone provide an up-to-date list of what's required? Not sure if anythings changed in recent months.

I saw Ubon Joe mentioned in a post a year ago about the four photos he has supplied, and also suggested an updated Kor Ror 2.

Regarding proof of residence: Is a driving licence/yellow house book acceptable?
My driving licence and yellow house book are for the address my g/f and I are registered at, but we live in a house belonging to her sister. I therefore have a rental agreement in my name, with her sister. This has been OK with Udon Immigration in the past for the retirement extension. Not sure if it might complicate the marriage extension, but as I haven't done one before, I don't know.

Any other pointers would be appreciated.

Marriage certificate, photos of you and wife, financial statement showing funds for nominated time, passport photocopy of each page

Take note we failed to get an extension 2 years ago until we had a photo of us standing outside of the house we were registered at, showing it's house number and also a map showing where the residence is located in the moo baan or condo.

Each time we applied for extension based on marriage there have been some slight nuances to what we needed.

In the end I changed from marriage to retirement even though I still work, as it was easier and immigration recommended it.

Your wife will need to go with you when you apply.

Two TM7 forms with signed copies on each one.

Financial proof.

Marriage certificate and Kor Ror 2 marriage registry. Not sure if Udon want the Kor Ror 2 updated but probably not needed since you will be newlyweds.

Copies of wife's house book registry and ID card.

Proof of residence. Rental agreement with signed copies of the owners house book and ID card attached.

Map to house from nearest main road or street.

Photos of you and the wife in and around the house. One must show you both with the house number. The number of photos needed depends upon the immigration office you go to.

Copies of your passport pages and departure card.

Not sure if Udon will want witnesses instead of doing a home visit.

Thanks for the list UJ,

Regarding the proof of residence - I'm not sure if you listed that as a heading, with the rental agreement as acceptable proof?

If not, please see my OP about D/Licence & yellow house book at a different address to where we live.

Your yellow house book and drivers license would not be accepted as proof or residence since they are not for where you are living. Most offices will not accept a driver license as proof of residence anyway.

Why don't you prove you live at the place where you actually live?

Particularly if they will most likely inspect the premises.

This comes up frequently - it baffles me.

I would if it was practical. My sister in-law lives abroad, so need to wait for her to come back to Thailand on a visit to sort out the paperwork, in order to move my address..

Joe, as far as acceptable proof of residence for Immigration for a marriage extension, how about other official documents such as a TOT phone bill or TrueVisions cable TV bill or similar in the applicant's name and with matching home address?

BTW, if one's making a change from a valid retirement extension to a new marriage extension, would there be any reason that would require having to leave Thailand and obtain a new non-O visa first in order to accomplish that? Or the transition from valid retirement to marriage extension should be all in-house at Immigration?

Nothing but a rental agreement with signed copies of the owners house book and ID card will be accepted unless living where you wife's house book is for.

You will find answers in the topic you started for the remainder of you questions.

Since the current extension would remain valid until it expires you would have to time to meet the financial requirements for retirement or if you have children from the marriage you could get one based upon being the parent of a Thai.

For retirement it is 800k baht in the bank for 3 months or a income of 65k baht or a combination of the two totaling 800k baht.

@ubonjoe

thks for your reply.

no kiddies.

When I've done retirement extensions at Korat, they stamp the passport on the day.

I'm told that marriage extension decisions are not on the day; typically wait 1 month.

As I will be applying for a marriage extension the week before my current retirement extension expires (end of July), do I get some kind of temporary extension to cover me for the "waiting time" ?

You will get a under consideration stamp that allows you to stay until your extension is approved. It will have a report back date on it 30 days from when your current extension ends.

I stay long term in a hotel. They gave me an official letter with my address and dates which they stamped, but no Id card or house book. I have used this form to get a certificate of residence before, will that suffice?

It would depend upon the type of extension you were applying for. For marriage they would expect that your are living in a condo, apartment or a house.

For retirement it would be accepted at most offices.

How long is the embassy letter proof of funds valid for?

mobile

Immigration will accept them that are up to 6 months old.

hmmm- I've been living in this hotel for 7 years. I just like living in a hotel. I guess I'll just have to make a few trips back and forth to jomtien to get it sorted.

I went to imm korat on 13 July, applied for visa extension, marriage to Thai national.

My current visa extension, retirement; expires 29 July.

I was hoping to get a 30 day add on from the 29 July to 28 Aug; but the Imm Officer said that as I was changing the type of extension, she would only give me a 30 day extension from date of application for marriage extension; to 12th August.

I was also charged a 2000BT "admin fee"; no receipt offered; as well as the 1900BT visa extension application fee; receipt given.

The general vibe of the place seems to be getting worse again, I saw uniformed Imm Officers openly putting cash into their pockets; at least 2 applicants giving gifts (in plastic bags) to Imm Officers; and 3 other applicants I spoke to also spoke of being asked for; and (like me) giving extra cash payments for which no receipts were given.

Now I have an interesting little gamble ahead of me next month; when for 4 days I MAY be in Thailand with no current visa; an event which the Imm Officer smugly told me would not be a problem; even if I came to the attention of any Thai officials.

She has obviously never been an alien in Thailand stopped by the police and found to have an expired visa.

I don't think these people do "phone a friend"; just the "go for the money" choice.

I don't think you got a 30 day extension. It is the under consideration stamp I mentioned before. The stamp allows you to stay until your extension is approved, The 30 days is only the date to check back with them to to see if has been approved it is not the end of the under consideration period.
