Excellent Thai food in BKK, where?

I want to recommend this place but it has mainly Thai food which was all perfect. They also have steaks though, i didn't try them.

The name is River Wine and it's on the riverfront and has a big terrace at the Chao Praya.

If you drive over Chaeng Wattana, go over the chao praya river then turn left into the soi and after 500 metre is this hi-so restaurant.

Best go there in a group, it's not good for a table for 2 persons i guess, many big groups eat here, there's also live music.

They serve Hoegaarden beer, Paulaner, Stella Artois, Warsteiner.....the best of Europe.

Only bad thing was the jetski's and longtailboats making much noise all night long, for the rest all is perfect but not cheap.

Here are pictures:

Let's see---jetski noise, longtailboat noise, not cheap, live music (probably more noise). Some recommendation!

You forgot crowded ("many big groups eat here"). Ranked #584 of Bangkok restaurants on TripAdvisor.

Well did you notice that the best ranked reviews in BKK came from visitors who were here on holiday? And they all stay in Siam area.

This place is in the subs and you better make a reservation because it's busy yes but not overcrowded.

The jetski noise is a problem of Thailand, those pesky things ruin the cold quiet nights for thousands of people along the river.

River Wine is the best riverrestaurant i have seen in BKK. Excellent thai food and great beers. The live music isn't too loud but we sit behind the band in a big group, we had many tables and i was the only farang among 2-300 thai.

With 1500 posts on Thai Visa; it would seem that you have lived here for awhile. So in saying that. The best Thai Food is always on some small

little restaurant close to your home. There are street restaurants which have been in the same place for 30 years. Good food at cheap prices.

Eating with nice local people.

For authentic Thai food, I think Baan Khanita is one of the best, there are a few of them, one at Asiatique, another in Sathorn on the corner of Sathon Rd and Suan Phlu and one up soi 23 in Asoke

Also, the original Cabbages & Condoms on soi 12 is quite good and has very strange condom displays everywhere!

I am here for 14 years sir, have eaten everywhere but eating at the roadsides is not what i like, no matter how good the food is.

To get my my stamp of "excellent" means much more then only the foodquality, it's the whole package of dining out. I don't care about the prices for this thread.

It starts with a good parkinglot which is guarded, nice and well dressed waiters, good clean tables/chairs, no soidogs/vendors/crying baby's, nice music, fast kitchen, nice drinks and of course the food has to be excellent in good portions.

Another excellent restaurant is Karaoke City in BKK.

This place is also for groupdining, you rent a private room with karaoke-equipment. Haven't been there for a while but it was really good.

You can hardly use tripadvisor in Thailand as a tool to gauge how good a restaurant is ...

the best place to eat ............... in my room ... coffee1.gif alone

i don't like anyone or want to mix with anyone

Haha you are funny, so you sit alone with a microwave dinner from Tesco?

I also am not a big fan of sharing food the Thai way but have done it hundreds of times and it does have advantages.

Myself i would never order a Thai dish that i don't know but if my friends order it and eat what i ordered i also taste what they ordered and learned a lot from that..

I still don't sing at a karaoke party but i drink/eat/smoke and enjoy myself. Mostly the Thai get very drunk and that's always fun. Many times i had to carry them out of the toilet and bring them home but that's allright.

Without Thai (who know BKK much better then me) i would have never visited those karaoke restaurants, some are really great! You won't find anything like that in the USA although i've never been there.

Then there are also the huge beerbars around BKK, place like Beer German, Beer Holland who brew their own beer and have much entertainment during the night. Music is very loud though and people drink vely much. It's fun to see it occasionally. There is just so much more then dining in the Siam area or Sukhumvit.

Then there are the karaoke clubs as well, they have 30-60 girls waiting to join your table and entertain in many ways. Thai men love to go there.

Food like deepfried chickenknuckles are not my kind of thing, i even don't like thai chickenwings but if the wings are cut in halfs and deepfried thai style i love them. Or Tomyam, i even ate the herbs that are in it which you shouldn't eat but how should i know that? I never read about that on this forum.

Samsen Villa also has authentic Thai food, cooked by original thai recipe's. It's a nice place with good food but the waiters are not trained at all which is annoying. They serve the wrong food all the time and can't take orders. This place serves beer-slush (beer with ice) which is famous among Thai.

From your description of the whole package, makes me wonder if you are a member of a private country club back home or a Bangkok hi-so wannabe. I don't mind eating with and where the locals do. When I'm in Bangkok, if I can't get there by walking or the riding the BTS, it's a waste of time and money. I just wish I could find a place in Thailand that has a good American style hamburger and fries.

Haven't visited either place in over a year, but have had some excellent Thai food at the restaurants attached to the Rose Hotel and Siam Heritage Hotel, both on Surawong. Wouldn't recommend either hotel, but the restaurants are (were?) quite good. My Thai friend agreed they were excellent.

Ruen Urai, next to the Rose Hotel has a nice ambiance. The Siam Heritage restaurant was nothing to write home about in terms of appearance.

Ruen Urai is off Surawong to the north behind Le Meridien Hotel a bit difficult to find. Siam Heritage is pretty much directly across from Le Meridien on the southern side of Surawongse.

I'm not telling where my favorite restaurant is! Super clean, open wondow kitchen, great food, and not expensive. Yes, I'm mean !

Another pointless drivel of a post.

Here is a more useful one.

Food Republic Phra Ram 9....you'd be hard pressed to spend over 100 Baht on a meal.

Enjoy.

My favourite is Siam House, Silom Rd, Soi 20. Very small family run restaurant, excellent Thai food and unbelievably cheap.

You can also take your own wine (no corkage charge at all) and get there early, mostly closes around 10.00pm.

Along the river I like "Kin Lom Chom Saphan" near the base of the Rama-8 bridge and the slightly more up-scale "Ban Klang Nam"

Both have great river views and very good food; maybe not the best anywhere but consistently good and reasonably priced. 90% of the customers in both places are Thai so not tourist traps.

If you decide to try either, take note of the phone number so your taxi driver can call...not that easy to find.

Very busy weekends. If you want a riverside table also a good idea to call in advance and reserve.

And rather dumb.

If your "secret" place goes out of business because of lack of Customers you will be partly to blame - and you will lose your favourite restaurant too.

Silly attitude.

Suppaniga Eating Room on Thonglor is excellent and authentic, but a bit pricey. Some may not appreciate it though as its more like home cook food and food that are harder to find. Not the usual tom yum, green curry, etc.
