wildwildbill Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Now then everyone! I plan to move to Chiang Mai in December this year to live and hopefully get a job teaching English. I was wandering what the deal is with being paid, and do you need a special visa to work legally? Last time I visited I just got the 28 day stamp at the airport, but dont fancy doing a visa run every month, even if you can work without a proper working visa. Also, can anyone recommend a good company to do my TEFL course with in Chiang Mai. Any advice would be greatfully recieved

aussiestyle1983 Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 Start a new topic it the "Teaching in Thailand" forum and you might get some helpful replys as well in there.
samran Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 moved to the teaching in Thailand forum.... And no, you can't legally teach without a work permit.
PeaceBlondie Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 Now that this topic has been moved to the Teaching in Thailand forum (thanks, samran), come on in (please remove your sandals), look around, and see that we've discussed these things more than a little already. Howdy.
Ijustwannateach Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 Read the pinned thread, "Questions About Qualifications," in its entirety. Check out the following threads, too (I've bumped them all for hiring season, but here're the cheap'n'lazy links): Red Tape For Teachers What I Would Tell My Administration (If I Could Without Being Fired) How To Keep A TEFL Job "Steven"
Sexy Beast Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 Presently over the border here there are rumors circulating that work permits won’t be issued or that the Thai government will prevent visa runs. This may be old news to you but that’s the ‘word’ around here. Consequently many teachers think that there’ll be a huge influx of teachers from Thailand to Cambodia flooding the ESL job market. But so far I’ve yet to see hordes of disillusioned English Teachers From Bangkok fighting there way over the Poi Pet border crossing.
