Thai Rak Thai Party gets new leader

BANGKOK: -- Chaturon Chaisang has decided to take the post of acting Thai Rak Thai (TRT) party leader after former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra resigned as the party leader earlier this month.

Mr. Thaksin's resignation followed the September 19 military coup d'etat in which his government was deposed.

In a press conference Friday, Mr. Chaturon said that he was ready to take the post. He will take office on October 16.

The new TRT party chief said the first thing he will do is to officially inform the Election Commission of Mr. Thaksin's resignation and warn former executives to submit their lists of assets and liabilities to the Election Commission.

Speaking about party policies, he vowed that the party would adhere to democratic rule and follow political path of reconciliation. The Thai Rak Thai Party has to obey the martial law imposed after the coup d'tat which forbid the party to resume political activities or political gathering.

Society won't worry, Mr. Chaturon said, as long as the Thai Rak Thai party conforms to the principle of democracy, avoids confrontation, and adopts a peaceful path.

Asked if Mr. Thaksin will resume his post in the future, Chaturon said he has not had an opportunity to speak with Mr. Thaksin since September 19. However, as the former prime minister resigned and isn't in a position to do any political activities.

Ahh TRT is beginning to make a come back. Wonder when fearless leader will be back? :o

Not for a while as he's is afflicted by terrible loss of face. gallery_6606_126_5804.jpg

When he does come back, they'll be waiting for him at the Bang Kwang Prison finish line.gallery_6606_126_26749.jpg

As for Thai Rak Thai, there's a new product on the market...

Tony Clifton, kmart, Crushdepth...

and others that always belittling Thaksin and his TRT with your infantile gloating should stop.

He's gone now... and his "Titanic" has sunk, Crushdepth. It's over.

He has lost face, Tony. LOTS of it. He may not be in Bang Kwang ..(yet).. but he's on the other side of the world now and is the OTHER Tony's problem now in the UK. Let's see if the have a grand tea together.

and yes, there are many of these kids getting caught, kmart.

and they are zeroing in on the right targets...

as per back to normal, the additional information on the topic follows:

Suriyasai Katasila, secretary of the Campaign for Popular Democracy, said he did not believe Chaturon could restore the party's image unless he had the courage to take on its old clique.

"Chaturon has to tell the truth to Thai Rak Thai's supporters about what happened to its former leader and the party because as of now they still haven't accepted the failure under Thaksin," he said.

the supporters are wisening up... :D

and as a closing footnote, this nice prophecy of things to come and how London was such an appropriate place for him to go to last April:

sorry... things didn't work out so well here, Thakky...post-9005-1160800732.gifpost-9005-1160800790.gifpost-21-1070252063.jpg

but.... best of luck to you in London.

A good point but I would say until the military says martial law is lifted, Thaksin's spirit of sorts is still here. Physically gone yes no doubt, effectively gone, I will leave that up to the military. When they say he is gone that is when it should be put to rest.

The only reason I can see why he would want to come back is because he is impotent in manipulating things his way from so far away. He takes a serious risk of joining his 3 former EC buddies in jail by coming back. His position in government may have changed but not his tactics. He is most certainly up to something here, perhaps trying to buy off judges or whatever. The military is wise to keep Thaksin away until he has been properly declawed and de-toothed.

Apparently Thaksin wants to come back to Thailand.

It seems he's worried his 90-day visa is going to expire soon. :D

Don't get caught up on an overstay, Thakky!! :o

Perhaps Jack Golf can run you over to France for a visa run... :D

But last night it emerged that Thaksin has approached British immigration lawyers with a view to staying permanently in the UK.

He is thought to have permission to remain here for three months only, unless he can claim asylum.

He is now staying with his 20-year-old daughter, a student at the London School of Economics, at a £3 million (208 MILLION BAHT) penthouse in South Kensington, Central London.

Sorry to hear you’re having to “rough it” so much while in the UK, Thakky… :D

Security staff said that the family would not respond to enquiries.

Also,

A government source said Mr Thaksin made a long distance phone call to Gen Surayud last week. Earlier, the deposed premier reportedly called Gen Winai Phattiyakul, defence permanent secretary and secretary-general of the Council for National Security (CNS), several times to seek permission to come home.

Former deputy leader of the shrinking Thai Rak Thai party, Sudarat Keyuraphan, was surprised the calls were made.

As she was unaware that Thaksin knew how to use a mobile phone??

''Now, it is not yet the right time for him to come back. Personally, I think he should wait for a while. In fact, he already did the three things the CNS asked for,'' said Khunying Sudarat, also former agriculture minister.

hahahaha... Sudarat telling Thaksin what's the right thing to do. Now THERE'S a switch.

Khunying Sudarat said Mr Thaksin telephoned her only once after the Sept 19 coup to ask for her opinions on the future of the party he founded.

''I don't understand why he still wants to come back. If I were him, I wouldn't come back just to suffer. People are criticising him, slandering him. How could he stand it?

''Is it because he never spent time on his own without a crowd of followers? He might be frustrated and lonely,'' she said.

:D :D

Trink: "any comment would be superfluous"

A later report clarifies this: apparantly her surprise was that Mr Big had international roaming enabled for his mobile. :o

Actually, I have a comment for this: I'm sure that self-exile in London is a fate worse than an appointment to the Ministry of Inactive Posts for somebody like Mr Big, no matter how nice his flat is. He's not surrounded by his coterie of Thai toadies and sycophants who wai his every move. Nobody gives a rat's ass about him in London. His London neighbors probably point to him as he returns to his flat from the corner takeaway curry shop and exclaim, "There goes that funny little Oriental man who speaks such stilted English. Wasn't he somebody important back in Taiwan (sic)?"
