Thai exports for the first 11 months contract about 5 percent

BANGKOK: -- Overall Thai exports for the past 11 months are expected to contract by about five percent largely due to global economic slowdown.

The Commerce Ministry will on Monday announce the export figures for the month of November which will see Thai exports contracting by an average of 5 percent for 11 months in a row.

Exports for the first ten months of the year were registered at 180 billion US dollars representing a decrease of 5.32 percent compared to the same period last year, according to Mr Suppat Onsaengkhun, deputy director-general of International Trade Promotion Department.

As for next year, he said that the Commerce Ministry would attach importance to penetrating new markets, border trade and trade with neighbouring Asean countries namely Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar and Vietnam.

Thai commercial attaches will be invited for discussions about the ministry’s new trade strategy to boost Thai exports, he said.

It is bound to go up again now Thailand is the hub for so many activities within ASEAN: nursing, accountancy, digital economies, criminal justice, to name but a few

China was a big import nation for commodities from Thailand.

Now China is changing its economy from an importer of commodities. to a consumer based economy.

That means Thai exports to China will drop in the next year or so.

Will Thailand be able to produce goods that the Chinese consumer will want to buy from

Thailand?

We shall see.

Is this result good or bad….did the global market shrink by 10%, meaning that Thailand increased its market share in a declining market?; or did the global market expand by 2% (which is what I read elsewhere) meaning that Thailand's market share fell faster than 5%?

Now the math….Q: If Thai exports decreased by an average of 5.32% over the first 10 months and an average of about 5% over the first 11 months….what was the decrease in Thai exports in November to achieve this?

The Chinese tourism industry has also started to take proactive steps to keep Chinese tourist home and within their budget as their economy slows down and profit making on the stock market impacts the population.

... and a junta leader is in charge of Thailand? 55555555555555555555555555555555555 - scraps for the leader and his minions and TAT!

Folks dont worry it will expand 10 % next year happiness for the people

How did this one get by the "spin doctors?" They should forecast 7% for next year as Viet Nam is 6.68% this year. Saving face is a must. Yea old hub is starting to wobble a bit.

Domestic consumption will not rise next year. They just targeted the auto industry with heavier taxes on cars.

Might come as a surprise to you, but most people don't eat cars............................coffee1.gif

90% of baubles, bangles, trinkets, household wares and appliances sold in Thailand are made in China.

Pray tell me what China cannot produce in-country that Thailand can offer them?

According to BOT export will expand with 0% in 2016:

From the other newspaper:

"Exports, a key economic driver, are expected to fall 5.5% this year and remain flat next year, compared with the previous 2016 forecast of a 1.2% rise. Shipments shrank in both 2013 and 2014."
