BANGKOK, 1 January 2016 (NNT) – The government is set to pursue its duties in the year 2016 including economic development, water management, human resources development, along with the enhancing public understanding regarding national reform and constitution drafting, the Prime Minister says.

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has made his remark on the occasion of the first day of the New Year, saying the government will be pursuing its objectives within its remaining term during 2016 and 2017.

He said the government will focus on budgeting necessary funds for its projects, to solve economic issues, and to renovate the taxation system to include SME businesses in the future, as a method to help ease inequalities in the society.

The government has also been prioritizing the development of human resources to the country’s demand by supporting the research and development activities, while is also working to revamp the entire water management system to prevent water shortages, in consumption and cultivation, through integrated participation of related agencies.

On the drafting of a constitution, the PM said he personally wants the charter to pass referendum, stressing that general elections must commence regardless of the outcome.

He said the government aims to increase public relation campaigns to inform the public on the draft constitution and national reform to strengthen the nation, adding that the success of national reform and other solutions to persisting issues will require every sector's cooperation.

"...along with the enhancing public understanding regarding national reform and constitution drafting, the Prime Minister says."

Yes, they have their ways of "enhancing public understanding". Since they have no skills at brainwashing, there is article 44.

How can elections still go ahead if there is no constitution? Impossible.

Strangely missing (or maybe not) as priorities for 2016: Reform of the Judicial system, crackdown on human traffickers, protection of intellectual property, crackdown on government corruption and peace with the Malay-Thai insurgency.

There is the NCPO 2014 Interim Charter that is sometimes referred to as the "Provisional Constitution." It can be amended to accomodate elections without a people's constitution (one passed in a public referendum), albeit only by the NCPO membership with Gen Prayut as Chief.

Given the absolute power granted to the NCPO in the Interim Charter, Prayut may actually prefer that the Meechai draft constitution fail the referendum with regard to the electoral process.

The most important item on the agenda is water , the resource that.Thailand has thrown away , their needs to be long term planning and the introduction of desalination Plants and dams , even at the expense of other projects , forget about underground aquifers as this will pump the country dry and turn the place into a salt marsh , the fact of the matter is Thailand needs water and quick , the water doesn't need Thailand...............................................coffee1.gif

Remember that cunning plan he has but cannot tell anybody?......................................................

"If it fails, I have a solution in hand to get the election held as planned, but I cannot reveal it at this juncture," he said during his weekly press briefing.

They keep on pursuing but never actually catch up.

Just can't run fast enough

“Give nonsense a good head-start with Tradition and Habit cheering it from the sidelines, and if you think Reform can catch up with it inside of two or three thousand years or more, your opinion is contrary to experience”

I suppose they could rename the NCPO as "Politburo", rename the NLA as "Peoples Congress", hold uncontested elections, win with 99.3% of the vote, and declare democracy restored.

But would this pass the EnglishJohn test for political purity? There could be a Red mole in the NLA.

So, after all those negative waves, can we have some pragmatic ideas on helping the economy?

Nitpicking!
