Japan pledges firm response after North Korea H-bomb test claim

"North Korea's nuclear test is a serious threat to our nation's security and absolutely cannot be tolerated"

TOKYO: -- Addressing Japan’s parliament, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has condemned North Korea’s reported test of a hydrogen bomb as a threat to his country’s safety.

Tokyo has pledged a tough response and is reaching out to other members of the international community.

“North Korea’s nuclear test is a serious threat to our nation’s security and absolutely cannot be tolerated,” Abe told deputies.

“We strongly denounce it.”

“Japan will firmly respond to this, including at the UN Security Council, in cooperation with the United States, South Korea, China and Russia.”

South Kora’s defence ministry said the country’s armed forces are stepping up their monitoring of North Korea.

In China, the Xinhua state news agency said that a test of a nuclear bomb by North Korea runs counter to the goal of denuclearisation and warned that any practice that disrupts stability in northeast Asia is ‘undesirable and unwise’.

If test reports are true, British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said Pyongyang would have committed a “provocation which I condemn without reservation“ .

Hammond tweeted the statement during a two-day trip to Beijing.

The UN Security Council is set to hold an emergency meeting later on Wednesday. Efforts may follow to expand existing UN sanctions against North Korea.

Japan, what are you going to do ?

The Americans sell military hardware for good money, but they're not going to sell you a nuke. And no, America is not going to let you try and build your own nuke.

Also, we haven't forgotten that World War Two was about fighting YOU as well as Germany. Yes, you was just as much involved as Germany was in World War Two. That's why you and Germany will NEVER be allowed to have nukes.

A bit behind the times now aren't you? Times change ,nations change, and alliances change. Should Vietnam have nothing to do with USA because they used to bomb dirt poor farmers with napalm? Should the USA have nothing to do with GB because of the war of independence?

I don't know who you mean when you say WE haven't forgotten world war 2, i'm 67 years old and i wasn't even born when it ended.

Mr. Abe telling his deputies that he strongly denounces North Korea's actions will surely set Mr. Kim's triple-chins aquiver with fear.

Meanwhile, in Southeast Asia and the South China Sea, while everyone is worried about North Korea . . .

When I say 'we', I mean us as a nation. People who were born in the 1950s and 60s grew up with World War Two still very much part of society. As in people actually fought in the war or had dads who fought in the war.

Today, what do you acually see in Britain ? You will see a man, it was his grand-father who actually fought in the war, and he hardly sees his grand-father. They still show television programs about the war, but not loads. People still watch stuff about fighting German soldiers on television. But the Japanese, it's almost been collecively forgotten by society. You get young people leaving school nowadays, some of them almost don't know that Japan did fight, and they was the enemy.

A fair number of young people hardly know that loads of British soldiers fought in Burma, against the Japanese. How many people actually know that loads of British service-men were captured when they surrendered to the Japanese in Singapore ?

I'm trying to say, I don't remember it in the sense that I was there, no, but I know about it from history books. As a society, most people knew about it decades ago, but today, lots of people hardly know. Hence, our society has almost 'forgotten' about it. I think they once called the British soldiers who fought in Burma "the forgotten army". If people were to watch "It ain't half hot mum" today, well, lots of the younger ones would be confused as to why are there British soldiers in a hot jungle, being in a war.

Just my opinion, thanks for reading.

and how long do you want to 'remember' it as a source of hate instead of regarding it as history? Wars are often complicated things, they start for reasons where fault can be attributed to both sides. Would you like us to remember the Tonkin bay incident, a lie that America set in the world to start the Vietnam war? or the British suppression of freedom in Kenya which led to the Mau Mau rebellion? or the American policy of overthrowing democratically elected socialist governments in South America?

Maybe Germany doesn't need to? The 20 plus US bases in Germany probably have them instead ! Japan also has 20 plus US bases planted on it !

The neither confirm nor deny policy says we are not to know.wink.png
