how do you determine someones age ? as far as trafficking is concerned laos women have been working in Thailand for at least 20 years they don't need to be trafficked they usually find their own work.

Two of my wife's friends were trafficked to Thailand for prostitution when they were 12. With the help of a "customer", they managed to make it back to Laos when they were 15.

Don't recall EVER seeing a headline like this under the last lot.

Not surprised. Your selective memory is getting more inaccurate with age.

Seriously give us a break from your nonsense !!

It is getting just a little boooooring................coffee1.gif

Coming from the author of some of the most ridiculous and unintelligent drivel I have ever seen on any forum !!. I normally just skip over your posts because I know for certain there is nothing worth reading.

I note you didn't give any example to back up your argument. LOL. Tells me everything I need to know.

Have a day off why don't you.

Are you going to reply to pheonixdoglover's post John?

They should also be checking Savannakhet Thai Embassy...ever seen the huge amount of young single girls going through that place? that whole office should be sacked... beside lack of good service and there is no need for 2 day service... and corruption if you pay 4000 baht to get same day corruption...

so i hope those officials who are on a human trafficking kick right now check there too!

Now i can see why the world see Thailand as a leading country in the world for trafficking people. If the do the job right they will have to replace 100,s of police chiefs. You can buy any thing in Thailand for the right price and that is the problem!

I do not think there is any medical test to confirm the age of a person, at best it would be a expert opinion.

Could always be some genetic or medical condition that made them look younger than they are, surly this would not pass the "Beyond Reasonable Doubt" test of a criminal court.

'Authorities said some of the women thought to be underaged would be sent for medical tests to determine their actual ages'

That young then

I wonder what tests can determine the actual age? The fortuneteller Thai way perhaps? smile.png

From With no paper trail, can science determine age? Andy Coghlan May 8, 2012

"... attempts to assess age with X-ray scans of teeth or wrists are doomed to failure, according to work to be published this week in the British Medical Bulletin. The fundamental flaw with such tests is that, because children grow at widely different rates, skeletal maturity shown on X-rays – which is used to gauge age – doesn’t necessarily match chronological age. Teenagers can have adult bone structure as early as 15 or later than 20, says study author Tim Cole at University College London (UCL). He says X-rays can provide the wrong answer about whether someone is under or over 18 up to a third of the time.

“It’s superficially an easy question to ask, but answering it is fraught with difficulties,” says Al Aynsley-Green, an emeritus professor of child health at UCL, who led the study."

"... both the International Olympic Committee and the international football federation, FIFA, have agreed not to use X-rays to resolve age issues."

"What technique would be more effective? Aynsley-Green and his team say that the best hope is in detailed assessments of physical and psychological development by specially trained paediatricians, skilled in combining different aspects of growth to make an informed estimate of age. It is crucial to chart a new way forward, he says: “Governments must stop believing that there is a ‘scientific’ test that will tell precisely the age of individuals claiming to be children but without papers to prove it.”

Why can't young single Lao girls get visas for Thailand? At least they coming legally.

Police officers of many countries that are accused/ suspected/ alleged to being involved in criminal, wrongful acts or abuse of authority etc are stood down from duty but remain on salary until provable evidence is sufficient to charge, arrest or dimiss from duty.

Inactive duty probably is the same in Thailand. What we rarely hear of is the outcome. But I have come across a significant number of "used to be a policeman".
