PATTAYA: -- Region 2 Police conducted an undercover operation at a Karaoke Bar in Central Pattaya in the early hours of Friday which resulted in the arrest of a 16-year-old suspected prostitute and the manager of the Bar.

Police conducted the operation at the NungFar Karaoke Bar off Pattaya Third Road, where an operative handed over 400 Baht in marked bank notes to secure the services of the 16-year-old girl. As soon as the money was handed-over, other officers moved in and arrested the Manager of the venue, Khun Somai aged 49, and the Cashier.

At Pattaya Police Station it was determined this was not the first time the bar had been prosecuted for providing underage prostitutes, and it was also revealed the bar was running on an expired entertainment license.

Wow..
I really feel and understand both sides.
1. My 17 and 15 year old Thai sons are now having sex. Which I totally can not accept. The girls are 13+.
My wife knows if these SOB sons gets these girls pregnant, I'm kicking these MF out of her house. We live in Patong, the boys live in Isaan. With the grand.

2. When reading this article, I hate it, but I understand it. Here is a minor who met one of my sons, and is forced to do what she has to do. Make money....To pay for milk. Diapers. Food. Clothes. .......

When In read this, I want to punch my sons and kiss my 2 year old daughter.

In our village, it seems likevall the kids are having sex. I really find out until my wife tells me. Her light airy opinion is the root of the problem.
FOR Me, I'LL slam dunk the <deleted>. Alas, this isn't my country, so I keep to myself.

Believe it or not , when i first came here 16 was not unusual at all ,there was even a schoolgirl bar , and up on Sukhumvit there were 14 year old girls working openly , and no one was forcing them , they just were making extra money , and before you ask no i did not have sex with that girl , i like them a bit older and more experienced , in fact these days a young girl to me is 30 years oldbiggrin.png

If she is underage, I think it more appropriate to describe her as a victim of child sexual exploitation rather than as a prostitute. The bar is not providing underage prostitutes; it and its clients are abusing children.

Do you think it is possible to easily distinguish 16 from 18 year olds?

Are there not16 year olds voluntarily choosing this line of work and procuring fake ID's?

They are not all victims and 16 year olds are not children.

1) No - but that still doesn't make it anything other than child abuse.

2) Possibly - but the reason that laws exist to prevent children working in the sex industry, in fact laws preventing children having underage sex, is because, in general, they do not have the intellectual capacity to understand the ramifications of their actions.

3) Again, possibly correct but I repeat that physical maturity and intellectual maturity are not linked.

I understand your situation but in Thailand it is hard to find a virgin over the age of 15 I'm afraid, they do start early here. That's why you will find a pregnant underage girl in almost every local village. No responsibility from the young dad who just walks away and move on to the next girl or victim as I would call her. Who here believes the krap about 400 for a barfine? Thats for the bar only...as some of us already know. I stopped that slutty behavior years ago, but as i recall, there was more to it than that. Shame that a girl of sixteen needs to do that....and hope they jail the manager and the client both.

This must be the 1st ever prostitution bust here, after all, we're told prostitution is illegal and doesn't exist in this morally perfect country!!

Unlucky being the 1st caught, and underage (for something that doesn't exist) at the same time!

1. Where in the world are sexually mature post pubescent females classified as children?

2. The age of consent in most Asian countries is 16 or lower. In Thailand it is 15. Obviously most lawmakers don't share your concerns. It's a bit of a dilemma for sure because keeping sexually mature mammals from pro-creating is never going to be easy as it is against nature.

I think that you are confusing relationships or encounters which are on relatively equal terms, with the exploitation of minors, who are less likely to be able to comprehend the implications of their actions, for money.

She may be legally allowed to have sex without money being involved, but if you had a photo of her naked on your phone you could be charged with child pornography offences. The law recognise her as being vulnerable because of her age and therefore protects her from the manipulations of those who seek to exploit her youth.

I will tell you a story about a friend of mine.

He took a girl upstairs at a bar after asking how old she was. 20 years old was the reply. So off they went.

A couple days later he wanted more so we went back and this time he took her out for a meal and a spin on the beach and then to his room.

The next day again and was beginning to like her a lot. So he talked to her about going on a short trip with him to Chaing Mai, which would be her first airpland ride so she was excited.

Next day he went to the bar again and was talking more serious about a flight. In which case he would need her ID card to have Info enough to book a flight. She said she would have to go to her room to get the ID and came back shortly with it.

The ID indicated that she was born April 1999. You do the math...........................

My friend was shocked. He was convinced she was 20 just as I believed it. And I been around Thailand more than 30 years. He has been worried ever since (a few months ago) about what could have happened to him had things gone another way.

Just think about this girl in Pattaya and if she had been seen going to a room with a unsuspecting farang and the police caught him in the act?????????????????????????

The bar would pay a couple thousand and be open the next day............ What about the unsuspecting farang??????????????????????

I think Thai Lawmakers need to make bar owners equally 'liable' and the bar owner get the same amount of time in jail as the farang..... I have read that bar owners aren't required by law to be 'liable' and only pay small fines.

Do you think that would ever happen................ ( I doubt it )(Lawmakers can't be bothered with it)............... T I T (This Is Thailand)

The scenario you described above is extremely common in the Philippines, where they give the girls dancer's licences based on birth certificates. They use their older friend's, sibling's or cousin's birth certificates. The customer is still liable if caught with an underage. I don't know what ID they need here, or if they need any at all to work in a beer bar or gogo.

Buyer beware - in both countries then. It doesn't seem fair, but remember it's a shady business and anything goes.

Same thing happened to a friend of mine in a restaurant. Cashier and manager arrested for procuring sex for a minor. Terrible thing for sure but in my friends case the underage lady was not selling sex and the cops fabricated a story to get a payment. When they did not receive a payment they arrested everyone and sent the case to the prosecutor. The police may be corrupt, keep an open mind.

Police corruption, in this country, make Thai people, and their families, endure unbelievable hardships.
