Deputy Prime Minister chairs tourism policy meeting

BANGKOK, 11 January 2016 (NNT) – The Deputy Prime Minister chaired the policy appointment meeting of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) to help determine the country’s tourism strategy in the future.

The Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak has presided over the TAT’s tourism policy appointment meeting along with the Minister of Tourism and Sports Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, the TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn, and private tourism agencies.

The meeting is aimed at establishing an integrated working plan to promote tourism activities in Thailand, including the promotion of Thailand to be ASEAN’s center of Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Events (MICE), the enhancement to income distribution from tourism, increasing the country’s income from tourists, and enhancing the sufficiency in tourism.

The government might also be providing a special budget for the stimulation of investment in tourism.

The TAT will be executing short-term tourism promoting projects such as the illumination of attractions along Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, the enhancement to tourism products and services value, the amendment to the Hotel Act, the organization of contests, and the enhancement to online tourism services by developing the accommodation and services booking website.

They must have been committee'ing all week-end to get such a brilliant plan with so many big words in the same sentence...

What could go wrong, people abroad must already all be running to their travel agents :)

That's a good idea. I wonder why nobody else has thought about it!

I just love reading National News Bureau of Thailand (the mouth piece for the govt) releases. Their releases are glorious, shows everything under control, everything going as planned, etc.

I'm going to say something positive about this. blink.png I know, hard to believe.

The idea of Thailand as a place for Meetings/Conventions, etc. is not so far-fetched. I think it might actually align with some of Thailand's strengths

1) The ability to accommodate a large influx of visitors

2) The Land Of Smiles reputation (even if you consider it misleading)

3) In Bangkok and a few other places, a wide range of decent hotel and restaurant choices

4) In Bangkok and a few other places, a very robust "entertainment" industry, which is a welcome perk for any business junket smile.png

5) Activities for spouses (Shopping, Wats, Golf, Elephant rides, etc.)

So let's see if TAT and the rest can follow through on this idea. It has a hell of lot more merit than "more tour groups".

Policy statement.

We the Thai tourism and Thai Government promise to eradicate all scams and dishonest activity in the kingdom and promise to deal with all perpetrators no matter what there allegiance ar connections might be. All crimes will be investigated fairly and with full transparency and will meet all international standards. We will bring together a group of international experts in there field to finally make sure that no corruption can take place and justice will truly be carried out. We the Authorities realize this will be a long journey but we're determined to carry these measures out so as any visitor to Thailand doesn't have to deal with the many corrupt and dishonest members of the population. We realize if we tidy up the various issues that blacken our industry we won't need to spend any money on development of the Tourism industry as the people will be happy to come.

How is that for a policy !! I'm sure many can improve on this and add some stuff but you have to admit it will go along way to,improve what's going on now !

In conclusion may I remind the meeting that instant dismissal will be the very least of the problems for anyone who tells the truth about tourism especially even hinting that that figures less less than officially stated and projections are pure fantasy.
