Guy came round our house to do a bit of welding on the garage roof today, he put his ladder up set up his welder, climes up the ladder puts on a pair of sunglasses and starts welding. I said you don't want to be doing that, you need a full face screen, you'll end up with skin cancer. The wife translated to him and he got angry and started shouting at me all I could get was farrang farrang farrang!!! Started pointing at me then fell of his ladder and smashed his nose in. He was raving mad then still pointing at me so I said that's what you get for welding in sunglasses. He said farrang stupid!!!

On our last building construction I approached the situation differently.

I gave the people operating the jackhammer a handful of disposable earplugs and the welder a cheap pair of welding goggles.

They appreciated it and the small outlay worked in my favour.

Lucky he wasn't stood on your loose toilet seat :)

He fitted it!
So that is the answer to your other thread then... Eureaka
No it's not if I get him round again it will come loose if I tighten it comes loose if he tightens it comes loose if anyone tightens it comes loose. How do I fix it coming loose? It comes loose, it's not the fixer.

and if the selfish shopkeeper had given him a plastic bag to put the rods in he would also have had free hand protection too!!

Was he wearing his steel toe cap Flip flops i hope,

biggrin.png I was going to say that it wasn't the sunglasses that made him fall but the worn tread on his welding flip-flops.

Beat me to it.

I think the fault lies with Bob nit-picking on the H&S, with only mentioning the sunglasses and not indicating the main cause of the fall........................wink.png

i've seen welders here who dont even bother with sunglasses

years ago i was traveling in a van in pakistan, we stopped at a garage for fuel, a guy was doing some welding on the garage building with sparks flying meters away from where vehicles, including ours were refueling. it was a terrifying few minutes.

The welders here in LOS are specialists and therefore have no need for protective equipment, only farang who do not get the proper training whistling.gif

I would be worried about going blind. Must be a lot of blind ex welders here......Same goes for the crews that remodel places and work with paints and glues. There all stoned on the fumes. Red eyed and half comatose. Dont get me started on the electricians.......

You don't get blind so fast from it, you'll have sand in your eyes for a few days and that will teach you the lesson.

Easy do it yourself. I presume a nice hefty hospital bill will be heading your way very soon!!! He will be able to afford safety gear then.

Welding goggles are almost as bad as sunglasses,I assume the welder was using Electric Arc,which calls for a Full face mask? and leather gloves?

I often thought, welders in Thailand pay a high price for posing on the job, as you say skin cancer ! surely somebody in authority has told them?

On a project I was supervising/Inspecting the work crew were using both acetone and MEK for cleaning without gloves.

I told them to use rubber gloves. They did for a day then went back to bare hands.

Only the Burmese female painters took notice and wore them.

Later lads were complaining about skin complaints. They wore them after that.
