Joe Biden urges executives at Davos to end LGBT repression

DAVOS: -- The US vice president has put gay rights at the heart of this years World Economic Forum in Davos.

Joe Biden urged chief executives to drive change in countries where lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people face repression.

The issue is on the official agenda for the first time at the World Economic Forum, where political leaders from countries that discriminate against gay people, such as Nigeria and Russia, schmooze business leaders and billionaire investors.

Biden told U.S. executives to push for change.

“You can change the terms of debate,” he said. “You actually put governments on notice.”

He said he and President Barack Obama privately raise the issue of repression of the LGBT community when they meet political leaders.

“I have had some run-ins with at least four heads of state already on this,” said Biden.

Banging his fist on the table, Biden said there was no national cultural justification to discriminate against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

“People used to be cannibals as part of their culture, people used to do terrible things as part of their culture,” he said.

Invest in communities, not tax havens, says Biden

Biden also suggested business leaders should look after their workers as well as their shareholders.

“You may not like hearing it, but keeping billions of dollars in offshore tax havens might be good for your shareholders, but it robs your home country,” said Biden. “So bring it back. Invest it in the communities in which you live. The enterprises. The communities allow your enterprise to thrive.”

Many of the world’s wealthiest and most powerful have gathered in the Swiss ski resort to discuss business and the state of the world.

Really?!?!

World markets are in turmoil, but the issue making the news are the gay rights on a world economic forum? Such a messed up world we living.. blink.png

They should focus on how to build sustainable and eco friendly businesses, how to create jobs or make their companies more efficient and productive, discuss about new inventions they could invest in, etc... coffee1.gif

Biden is like a flashback from the 80s. Remember the old days when LGBT rights were fashionable, leading to nuttiness like single sex couples having priority over married men and women for adoption. And now, well nowadays the "progressives" in the western world are flooding their countries with young uneducated muslim males and seem to want to establish islamic laws and generally conform to their (some would argue barbaric) ideals. To spell it out clearly, in the near future thanks to naive liberals LGBT's will be stoned or thrown off a tall building blindfolded. Biden is thrashing against the certainty of it all, what a fool.

Interestingly, as someone that is regularly called a bigot on this forum, my sympathies are absolutely with the LGBT, and opposed to the islamification of western civilization 100%.

I wonder how LGBTs will fare when Sharia Law is finally declared as an essential Human Right in the EU, in USA and all centres of PC, worldwide.

So far the responses to this topic are what you would expect from bigots. Why would one make fun of the US Vice President who is promoting human rights on an international basis? The homophobic respondents are the same groups who no doubt make racist comments about non whites an non Christians on a regular basis. I wonder what type of people put down others who promote human rates and basic civility? I know the answer unfortunately.

Wonder who Biden is referring to, here? This could well be racist, Joe.

Grow up sport. No one is advocating homophobia.

But given the current world issues, renewed economic turmoil, radical Islamic terrorism, austerity, poverty, disruptive climatic change, etc etc; do you really think the most important issue the world faces is LGBT repression?

Davos, one of the most expensive resorts in the world, is hosting the world's wealthy and powerful.

Sounds like the Bilderberger gang is in town.

Better keep a low profile USA.

Might mention the minority Christians in Muslim countries getting wiped out ... or is that unfashionable?

Maybe they need parades and rainbow flags. Oh ... they will be murdered for that.

Oh well ..... forget about it.

Davos is not about the 99% anyway.
