Is that 30K for one month or all 5???

With my wife and 2 children we spend about 40K a month.

There is no accomodation in that as we own our own house.

A great deal depends on where you plan to live, Bangkok is much more

expensive, what level of comfort you expect and what you consider to be social life.

im planing on moving to thailand for 5 months..next year may or so. i have a budget also of 30,000 baht...

my question is how would a person live on that amount, food, accomadation, and a socail life.

Is that per week, or are you asking if you can survive in a foreign country for 5 months on 800USD or 650 Euros???????

Oh come on guys. This is turfsire again!

Look at the spelling and the way it's written. He's not even attempted to hide his style. Hi might also want to learn not to mispell certain words the same way in three distinct new posts.

When is this guy going to get banned?

If you can solve the visa problem cheaply then 30,000 baht per month is definitely enough to live on in most places in Thailand.....that is unless you have to spend alot of money to enjoy life....of course if you have to spend alot of money to enjoy life then it seems for many people there is no amount that is enough.

P.S. I have heard that when JD Rockefeller Senior (the original one) was once asked how much money is enough he replied "just a little bit more".

Some will say otherwise, but IMO ฿30,000 is a subsistence budget.

I guess much depends if quality of life is important to you.

You should also think about how you would deal with the unexpected; keep Murphy's Law in mind... :o

What age are you ?

if you are below 40 i would say 30k no chance, If below 30 i would say you would need that every two weeks

Where do you plan on living?

If it is in a tourist resort and you do not have accomidation no chance

It is your first-decond trip to Thailand ?

If yes then no chance

Can you arraned a non immigrant visa?

If no then no chance

Do you plan on having lovers?

Do you like to drink?

Do you smoke?

If you answer yes to two of the above no chance

I doubt any person having to pay for accomidation in any tourist type area of thailand could live on 30k a month.

I'm spending north of 100K per month. I cant conceive of living on suck a pittance, turdsfire

i don't think the amount one spends can be used as an indication of content and satisfaction. i know a number of people who can afford to spend only a fraction of the amount i am spending but... they seem to live a much happier and content life than i do :o

If you you are the kind of person that equates quality of life with material wealth then no, 30,000 baht won't be enough for you to live on in Thailand. But in that case almost no amount will be enough no matter where you live.

It's obvious that quality of life is important to everyone, but for some quality of life has very little to do with money. Of course you need to have enough to be able to pay for lifes little necessities, but believe it or not some peoples happiness doesn't depend on how big their house or car is, and they are just as happy living on home cooking as they would be eating out daily at fancy restaurants.

On another note:

Time and time again people are claiming that Bangkok is much more expensive to live in than the rest of Thailand. Except for accomodation I don't agree that this is necessarily true. If you are happy living a "issan lifestyle", and by that I mean mostly staying at home and only occasionaly going out for a cheap meal or a movie, then I belive you can live that same lifestyle in Bangkok for not much more money. Food is about the same price and transportation is cheap, so you might even save a few baht as you don't really need a car or motorcycle (which you probably would in Issan).

Of course, Bangkok offers many more leisure activities and shopping opportunities which could make life more expensive if you let it, but the choice will ultimately be yours. And you can hardly blame Bangkok for giving you choices :D

My Rent is 51K for 2BK 170 Sq mtr apt. uts 4K. gf allowance 16K. Food, beer, other necessities easy 29K more so there's 100K and I dont have car or medical. Ok so if I dont have to pay rent then no prob 50K/month but I'm not laying out 7 mil baht (not selling my fall back house in home country for that) for a 100 sq condo. Sadly I gotta pay rent and rent is expensive. My budget includes no eating out, movies or starbucks. This is a bare bones BKK budget. Sure if I could cram myself into a closet I could pay 20K rent in a lousy location incl all uts but overall bare bones would then be 70K and I wouldnt be happy at all. In addition I am not incl visa run expense every 3 months. This adds another 4K per month on cause I take my gf with me. You got your 2 r/t tickets 6K + 700 depart taxes each 1400, transport on both ends 1100, hotel 2K and food away 1500. Life aint cheap and I dont buy anything or drive a vehicle or go to bar, restaurant, theatre or starbucks. God help me if I did. 105K per month minimum for nothing really other than simple existence. Then I gotta maintain my house in my home country that sits there unrented but that's another story and another 30K baht per mo.

Having looked at a few forums on this my guesstimate is about 150,000 a month to have a decent life with rent coming in at about 25,000 to 30,000...then you have the other outgoings ...AC..Gas ...Elec ...motorbike...insurance...internet...TV....food ...drink...smokes...girls...viagra...LDs..trips..IMHO

To paraphrase LaoPo on the other thread this guy opened . . . . . I can't believe you guys are continuing to feed this troll.

Just because you think a troll started the thread doesnt mean one shouldn't post because it might also help others who want to come and spend some time here.

personally i think 30K is enough but depends how big your ego is and how well you can contain your penis. If you want to feed both you're gonna stuggle on 30k

I'd agree with you normally, but this topic has been done to death a million times already, hasnt it?

do you know what really p*sses me off is people like you who having been on the forum a while or have lived in Thailand a while, have absolutely no sensitivity or empathy to people who don't know quite as much as you, this is a forum for everyone, stop being an arrogant *ss!!!!

:o:D:D

rant over... you may resume normal service!!!

Will all due respect, that's why the forum has a search engine. There must be 50-100 threads along the lines of 'how much does it cost to live in Thailand'

And, frankly, the answer is always the same. Up to you and your lifestyle.

What pisses me off is obvious trolls like the OP coming here and deliberately diluting the use of the forum to oldtimers and newbies alike posting such bogus threads.

I have a similar budget to yours Beavis however i don't pay a GF allowance. Im single and don't pay anything for ladies or to ladies. I don't think you can call your existence simple though if you are paying 51k pcm for an apartment i think most would say your living very well.

I think i can live well on 100k pcm however you adapt your lifestyle to your means. I could live on 30k per month and be very happy in Thailand however I wouldn't be able to afford my current accomodation.

cmon boys.....be nice. you guys might be living on some huge luxurious condos to pay the kind of prices that you do.

the 5month thing is a different issue..with visa problem and such.

BUT I have to say that 30K to stay in thailand IS possible if you are not talking about expensive booze in expensive clubs everynight.

one COULD get a place (small studio, very basic ofcourse!) but clean and in accessible area for around 7000baht a month plus utilities (look in Phetburi area, near soi 15-19)

you're then left with roughly 650baht a day for things such as food and drinks/sightseeing. if you are considering to stay here that long I dont think u need to be eating out at extremely expensive restaurants all the time. besides most thai resturants in town arent as expensive as western food. so if you spent 100bht on lunch (buy brekkie at supermarkets, or eat thai style for 20-30 baht!) then you are still left with around 400 for a somewhat nice meal at dinner with a couple of beers.

if you want to splurge on some dinners with big drinking nights, then save up on some lunch by eating at local food stalls.

sure I know its not the kind of life most expat here live....but if you ask if this is possible? yes. majority of thai people in bangkok would be earning between 15 to 25 K a month. (not gonna talk about wage earners, but these are office type people who also still manage to socialise..movies, bars dinner outs and such :o

ofcourse being on holiday you might wanna splurge...thats ofcourse a different story. shopping money might need to be separate. if you plan to travel to other places outside of bangkok then travel cost has to be factored in.

and bendix...really if you think this question has been answered more than enough, then let the others post in this thread :D

anyway, hope it helps..............

but really, i read the kind of money you guys spend and I really wonder how you can afford to! most thais would not make that kind of money unless they have huge family fortunes, or have climbed up the career ladder in their mid 40s or so, or some few successful entrerenuers. these are still not majority of the population...in bangkok, let alone thailand :D

You'll be fine,

Get a decent 1 bedroom appartment for like 8000-10000 a month plus electricity/water.

So maybe 19,000 left for food/living etc... so thats more than 600 a day, with is spently for a single person, especially if you dont mind eating 1 or 2 30 baht meals a day.

I've spent similar periods of time on a similar budget, and had no complaints

I earn about 35000 here and I live very comfortably (in Bangkok), I just purchased over 50000 worth of gold for my engagement, so I've had to live like a thai this month (ie. less than 10000) and I am still living very comfortably.

So depending on your lifestyle, you can live here on almost any budget.

depends where your staying and your visa situation.

When i stay in phuket i get by really easily on 10000 baht a month, get a room for about 3000 baht a month ( 5 min walk to beach) grab a rice cooker and an electric wok for about 1000b combined ( if you want fancy ones). Food fresh from the market costs about 100 - 200 bahts a day so lets say 30 days at avg 150 a day is 4500b a month for food, and lets put aside some bahtz for getting drunk, lets say 250 baht for a 26 of sangsom + mix + ice every 2nd day is about = 4000 bahts, so now were at 11500, hmm cheap so far and those are over estimates, lets throw in a pass at patong gym so you can stay in shape, 600 bahts a month there.. so now were at 12100, throw in 3000 bahts for some spare bahtz, and 15 000 bahts a month EASY. I am usually at 10 or lower because i split food costs with friends + neighbours. Who would have thought such an amazing tropical island can be lived on for such a nice budget. Also you can shave bahtz off that if you just buy your sang som in cases at big c. This can be applied to mix also (m150 / coke or pepsi !! up 2 u!!).

i love the tropics.
