Drought in Northeast growing more severe

Nakhon Ratchasima, 27 January 2016 (NNT) – The drought situation in the northeastern region has increased in severity with 10 districts of Nakhon Ratchasima now in dire need of water.

Authorities in Nakhon Ratchasima have had to send out 6 water trucks carrying over 36 thousand liters of water to aid residents affected by worsening drought conditions in the province.

A total 10 districts have reported major impact from the situation with as many as 60 thousand households feeling the effects of the water shortage. Local administrators have exhausted 50 million baht in enacting measures such as water dispersion and canal dredging to alleviate the plight of residents.

The second army infantry in Yasothon province has contributed to efforts to clear northeastern waterways of plants and debris to aid in the flow of water to needy areas.

In Roi Et province, authorities have been dispatched to dissuade the planting of rice to make sure limited water supplies are not exhausted.

Authorities are going to try to dissuade planting of rice! Hehee! I can just imagine how the farmers who owe money to the banks are taking this dissuading! They are probably telling the authorities "OK krap" and then going about their planting as usual.

The army being useful yet again, nobody else thought of maintaining these klongs?

It is apparently quite difficult to plant rice in a dry field.

Out here in rural Khampaeng Phet they have been doing that for over a month already.

Good ol' NNT!

Think they have not noticed that it has been like 10 degrees and raining in the north/northeast for the past 3 days.... coffee1.gif
