Hello everyone,

I'm in the market for a dog house. Timber. Does anyone know how where to buy one, or alternatively who to contact to make one?

A few online searches revealed a couple of companies but prices between 12k and 37k perhaps a bit unnecesary.

I can't and won't make it myself. Just a bad idea!

Thank you.

A few years ago there was a lady in Sansai who couldn't understand why her dog wouldn't go inside his dog house. She kneeled down and took a peek inside and an Indochinese spitting cobra spit right in her eyes. Fortunately her husband was home, heard the scream, and took her to the hospital immediately and she was treated successfully. She did not have permanent damage to her eyesight. Too bad the dog couldn't speak to warn her.

Be careful...

Steel cages are the dog houses here. Easy to clean. I wood (!) imagine wooden house woodn't be be easy to keep clean of tics, for one thing.

Our dogs actually like the steel ones, we have two. They go in there to sleep sometimes. Not expensive, just get a big one. One shop is just opposite Auf der Au restautant.

The second hand market/shop in Nong Hoi sells new metal dog houses /kennels. Not too sure on prices but she has many different sizes.

Its on the road passed the Holiday Inn and just before the Mandihol Road overpass.

Ive been tempted to build a couple of wooden kennels for our dogs...but the price of timber and the threat of termites has put me off thus far. I will likely get one of these metal ones and make up some sort of plywood sandwiched polystyrene walls to put into place during cold spells.

Find a carpenter, get someone who speaks Thai to explain what you want and you'll get a price. Don't think there's much choice in the dog house market, a lot of guys on here are frequently in it though!!!!!!

Each to there own.... toy dogs maybe ok inside a house. My preference is that animals domestic or otherwise live/spend most of their time outside of the house ie in their natural environment.

Again I say each to their own.

I for one also do not 'dress up' my dogs in clothing when it gets cold. They are wearing a perfectly good fur/hair coat that nature gave them.

They are still part of our family and have no ill health as a result of our stance on where they live.

Thanks everyone, we'll try to find a carpenter that wants to make it for us.

As for the dog, no need to worry about her, she's very much part of our lives and the community here. Extremely social and happy dog.

I built one out of scraps of left over wood from various house projects.

I gave the whole thing several coats of preservative and let is stand in the sun for a couple of day before letting the dogs in.

They don't seem to mind the preservative have no problem using the doghouse.

As I said in an earlier post have a roof that you can either lift off or swing up.

Also stand the legs on bricks to keep them off the ground
