As mentioned, fly into singapore then onto Australia. I booked the tickets with jetstar separately. Here is my question. When arrive Singapore to I need to clear customs and get a boarding pass for next leg. I only have carry on luggage. I originally was going to stay 3 days in Singapore that's why the two flights were not booked as single ticket. Thanks in advance

I flew from Penang to Melbourne a few years ago via Singapore. I had to clear customs as the flights were booked separately with different airlines. Not an issue. You have plenty of time and Singapore customs are very efficient.

If you are booked on a low cost carrier you will almost certainly have to clear customs.

If you are booked on a mainline carrier it is probable you will not.

As they are both Jetstar you may be able to transfer without customs however the only way to be sure is to contact jetstar and ask them.

It's also worth checking when you check in at Swampy, they may be able to check you all the way through even though you have separate bookings.

Thanks guys. I fly Feb 16 and will report back. My guess is customs. Will check at swampy with jetstar.

You don't need to clear customs. You get a boarding pass at transit desk in SIN. You should hurry off the plane as you have a short transit time coz the line can be long.

Ok , I made it and in perth now. You cannot get a boarding pass at transit desk. I had to clear customs. For all airlines unless the tick was booked as ONE you need to clear customs and obtain boarding pass then pass through customs again. I confirmed this by talking to transit desk. All airlines the same

It is not the same for all airlines, even some LLC 's will arrange check-through on some destinations, see Nok air on Connecting Flights.

Many airlines have agreements, especially when they are in a group like Star alliance or One World.

I recently flew Bangkok-Doha-Copenhague on a Qatar ticket and asked nicely at BKK check in desk if they could check my luggage through to Brussels on Brussels Airline, after checking their computer system the lady proceeded, saved me some hassle in CPH, checked in on my smartphone, went through passport control and to the departing gate.

The OP and my reply was specifically about Singapore and I had TWO separate tickets. All be it with same airline. You have to go through customs. Not interested in timbuktoo airport. Might add that I also asked at swampy airport before leaving .

Well yeah, if you fly Jetstar, that is what you should expect, try Singapore Airlines in stead....

Your last sentence "all airlines the same" is rubbish.

I have on seperate silkair and SIA tickets and could book my luggage through and check in in chiangrai for both.

Jetstar is a point to point carrier which means you leave the airport when each flight arrives.

And you have done it? As i asked two other airlines at transit desk. Both same as jetstar. Anyway over this. I offered first hand experience and went out of way to ask airlines to assist others. Perhaps Singapore airlines is one carrier that allows issue of boarding pass at transit desk.

Anyway that was not my OP. Also posts about luggage transfer from some is about what? I only had carry on.

I have experiences both with SQ and Thai Airlines in Changi. When flight with SQ, I don't need to clear custom even if I bought the ticket separately. But when I fly with Thai Airlines, I need to go to clear custom, then going back to check in counter. Maybe it's only privilege for SQ in Changi (it's Singapore airport anyway and SQ is their national airline carrier).
