I am flying into Bangkok airport tomorrow and I am suddenly worrying that I have brought too many clothing items. I have two trunk sized suitcases full of clothes and shoes. What are the rules about this? How do I know if I have too many items?

They are all still in their original plastic and everything, I am worried that a person becomes a clothing "smuggler" at some point and can get arrested for bringing in too many items.

I think the above posters have nailed it.

I've never heard of anyone getting nabbed for clothes-smuggling, but there's always a first.

Customs at the airport are after the easy targets, booze and tobacco, easy to detect, easy to enforce limits (so don't put anything like that in your trunks).

In all seriousness things in their orriginal packets will be a trigger for questions by customs, They are not usually too interested in your stuff unless it could be resold..

One does have to wonder why the OP is bringing in so much clothes and in the original packaging too. Clothes are one of the few things that can still be had at a reasonably cheap price here.

Rule #1 when traveling, ALWAYS remove items from their original packaging.

There are some though who should be arrested at the airport for the clothes they are wearing.

Lol ... that was a great start to my day. Thanks

Good quality clothing is hard to get here in my opinion talking of quality stuff from marks and spencer etc.

Marks and Spencer clothing is easy to get here in Bangkok. You just go to Marks and Spencer.

No idea. I'm a little too young for M&S slacks.

My neighbor's wife got hit for some 10K in VAT for bringing in a LV handbag on her last trip. It was in the original packaging, in her suitcase, and she was carrying another one.sad.png

We get much better deals in the US than here. Better quality at better prices. Always go back with an empty suitcase or two and fill them up! Plus, the selection is much better.

i have some clothes that were bought in thailand at least 15 years ago. come to think of it the shirt i have worn every day for the past 5 days is one of those. no holes or rips all buttons still original. not faded. all the young girls still smile at me.i have to be careful not to hold on to the overhead hanger-ons on the sky train though because all the pretty girls will line up to sniff my armpits. then they slink away with that strange dreamy look in their eyes.

cost about 200 baht from one of the small unnamed shops in pratunam clothes market.

yes i have to give them advanced warning so they can surreptitiously maneuver into a suitable sniffing position.

Every year I bring back 40+kg of stuff (clothes, food, electronics, household goods) from the UK with me, due to the high prices and poor choice here. But I always remove the original packaging.

My boss was bringing 3 laptops for his employee. And he went from Spore. And he passed the security (custom). He did it by removing all the packages, just bring the laptop and the charger. He also has an employee card which title engineer.

What is the importance of the employee card with engineer as a title ?

He used it as a reason why he brings 3 laptops. Use it by saying those 3 laptops he need for commissioning

If questioned, do not say they are gifts or for other people. Just say they are all for your own personal use.

He will look so sweet going on a perp walk through the whole airport in the Victoria Secret stuff.

We always travel with business visa, not tourist visa. If working permit is needed, we will also get the working permit.

Most of our client doesn't want their contractor come illegally, they said it is not compliance.
