2 Esquimalt-based navy crew charged in Japan with drug use
CBC News

'These allegations are obviously troubling,' says Rear Admiral Gilles Couturier

VANCOUVER: -- Two crew members aboard the HMCS Winnipeg, which is based in Esquimalt, B.C., have been charged in Japan with using a controlled substance, the Royal Canadian Navy said Tuesday in a statement.

The pair were detained Monday while the ship was in Tokyo for a port visit.

The navy said, originally, three crew members were detained, including two members of the military and a civilian employee. One of the military crew has since been released, but the other two were charged.

"These allegations are obviously troubling," said Rear Admiral Gilles Couturier in a written release, which pointed out the navy has a zero-tolerance policy for illicit drug use.

Yea, But awful DUMB to do any thing like that in another country.May be lenient sentence at 5 years, courts marshal in The Navy, and Even more time when they get home.Dumb, rely Dumb..

Agree 100%. Why do people travel to foreign lands and then seem to try to transplant their home norms there?

Leads to lots of problems, in my experience......
