CDC claims new charter 'Democratic, provide public participation'

BANGKOK, 4 February 2016 (NNT) – The new constitution draft will uphold to democratic principles, allow public participation in national matters, says CDC spokesman.

The Constitution Drafting Committee’s (CDC) Spokesman Norachit Sinhaseni has addressed on a nationally televised broadcast on the concerns regarding the new constitution draft for not being democratic, ensuring that the charter does uphold democratic principles.

He explained the constitution grants power to the public to select their representatives, while ensuring all votes count. The constitution is also designed to provide an indirect senatorial appointment system which allows people from all occupations to apply.

The CDC Spokesman has added that the new charter includes various measures which will allow true public participation on various topics.

It is democratic. I am allowing you peasants to vote on who we nominate!

Oh, well, if it was on TV it must be true then. Case close, all is well in the land of shams.

I love the phrase " various measures". The equivalent of hand waving.

The CDC rolled the turd which they were instructed to roll.

All parties are being rallied to defend the indefensible.

However, thinking people are not allowed to discuss the draft turd...

Seminar about new charter draft aborted at junta’s order

This is beginning to sound like the Emperor's New Clothes story...

Obviously defecating on a piece of paper in public is allowed under this constitution.

"The constitution is also designed to provide an indirect senatorial appointment system"

Which is completely lacking any direct election of senators. At least under the 2007 Constitution, 50% of the Senate was directly elected by the Thai people. Even then those elected Senators were ostracized by the appointed Senators and discounted on legislative matters.

Just one example that the Meechai charter does not uphold democratic principles that gives the people all the power of legislation and in effect increases the barriers to an effective democratic participatory government.

Seminar about new charter draft aborted at juntas order

It should be mentioned that this seminar was to be held in NIDA. It is an understatement to say that the NIDA has never been a red shirt's nest. ;)

Unfortunately for the Thai people, the wheels seem to be coming off the Junta bus. We will see if 20 years of consolidating power by the PM, and his classmates, will amount to much. If he makes the big grab, I am guessing the military splits and he loses. But he could simply stand down. A retirement after years of patriotic and meritorious service, etc. Hopeful that is what happens....and sooner rather than later.

So anyone here already read the final draft of the proposed charter ?
