Assange to accept arrest if UN rules against him

LONDON (AP) — WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange says he will accept arrest by British police if a U.N. working group on arbitrary detention decides that the three years he has spent holed up in the Ecuadorean Embassy does not amount to illegal detention.

Writing on WikiLeaks' Twitter account Wednesday night, Assange said if the U.N. finds he has lost his case against the United Kingdom and Sweden then he will turn himself into police at noon on Friday.

"However, should I prevail and the state parties be found to have acted unlawfully, I expect the immediate return of my passport and the termination of further attempts to arrest me," Assange added.

Assange took refuge in Ecuador's British embassy to avoid extradition to Sweden where two women have accused him of sexual assault.

I guess someone has wiki-leaked to him that the UN decision is in his favour ;)

Apparently the decision was made 2 days ago but will only be made public tomorrow.

Assange hasn't been detained, he's free to walk out of the embassy anytime he wants.

Assange moved the goalposts every time the Swedish prosecutor conceded to his demands.

Trying to evade arrest isn't admirable, come out and face the charges, if you're as innocent as you say, and you can prove it, then there's nothing to worry about.

I know he claims the Swedes will hand him over to the US authorities, but I doubt that will happen.

The Swedish Prosecutor has broken European protocol at almost every stage in this investigation. The original prosecutor who did not see there was a case against Assange was replaced with the current prosecutor. Sweden were able to continue questioning anytime they wished in the UK as was the norm, but they did not they insisted on extradition to Sweden, and that was for only one reason, to extradite to the US.

ha ha ! Laughable

you doubt that would happen? Then why couldn't they have given an assurance of that years ago?blink.png

As soon as he walks out they'll arrest him for dropping a cigarette butt in Gothenburg in 1990, and he'll be in Guantanamo before you know it.

I am sure Assange will be greatly comforted by your doubts. Would you take the risk of imprisonment for the rest of your life so trivially, if you were in his shoes?

Can you explain why you doubt that Sweden would not extradite him to the US?

I personally don't doubt it for a second, and neither does Assange. It's the only reason he doesn't come out and "face the charges".

The US has been forced to disclose its plan to capture and render Edward Snowden if he had arrived in any of the Scandinavian countries. Assange was prudent to evade the US world police. He's suffered quite enough!

Hand him over to the US authorities. They will invoke the Patriot Act and he will never see the light of day again. In this case the laws are pretty well universal fixed trial locked up and throw the key away. Come on look at the world we are living in. The good old hardworking days of your grandparents is long gone.

They just reported on BBC world that the British police will still arrest him irrespective of the United nation's ruling.

Although I guess it's hardly surprising in some ways considering the way Wikileaks exposed the inconvenient truth of such flagrant disregard for international laws by the people who are so keen to lock him away.ph34r.png

For the life of me I cannot understand why any true American (or British) Patriot (or any other Patriot for that matter) would not applaud this man as being the one that has shown that our Governments are a bunch of lying Bar Stewards! A Patriot is not one who supports the Governments it is one who supports the social, environmental and constitutional values of the country concerned. This man exposes who the underhand lying politicians are and equips the people with all the tools necessary to get rid of them - Election time and the ballot box !!! Even if you think the pen is not mightier than the sword, it is a lot sharper !

Change is actually in the hands of the people, it is just most people are scared to death of voting for change and like lemmings we will all go to hell in a hand basket. Make your vote count and get these lying toe rags out of positions of power, Assange and people like him risk their freedom to help ensure we have a choice about ours.

And puleeezzzee, do not come at me with 'he gave away state secrets', no he didn't. Showing an Apache mowing down innocents is not a Government secret (though I know why they want to keep it one) and displaying the lies that politicians tell the people is not a state secret, to say it's a state secret is simply more propaganda that we seem so willing to suck up and swallow. Time for coffee, time to wake up! It's almost too late - but not quite.

Can you trust any authorities? Eu is flooded with enemies, or what you call Islamist. Rape & murder become a norm of the day of this new world order. EU seems have no idea what to do with these influx of never to be assimilated Muslims in European traditions. Britain wants out, Central East European countries want, and rightly so, self governing ability without German, or EU diktat. Islamists in Sweden getting free prostitutes paid by Swedish government so they stop raping Swedish girls and woman, and here ....Julian Assange. What a quiproquo!

The world is turned upside down and cretins run the show.

And there in lies the irony. A country that is providing free prostitutes so that immigrants do not rape the local women and girls, wants to arrest Assange because a woman decided 3 days after the second time she had sex with that it was not consensual, joined by another who was pee'd off that she wasn't the only woman in his life. The condoms presented by one of the women as evidence had never been used. Perhaps Assange should claim precedence and claim free prostitutes in Sweden as therapy as immigrants are raping women left right and centre and not being arrested , claiming 'social differences'. You are right, the world is turned upside down and cretins run the show.

If it was your mother or sister or daughter accusing him of rape, would you be so inclined to support his hiding from prosecution?

Honestly, I don't think any of you would.

You do have more honour than that......
