UK passport & birth certificate for half Thai child

Featured Replies

I know this has been asked a few times but I would like some up to date info.

I am going to apply for a UK passport and birth certificate for my child. Can someone who has done this recently tell me what documents were required for each, copies or originals. Also to apply for the birth certificate, can this be done at the embassy in bkk or vfs or does it have to be posted?

Thanks in advance for any help

The birth certificate is issued at the hospital where the birth took place.

There's no birth certificate that can be issued by any UK authority or agency of any UK authority for a birth that happened overseas.

Most of the information you need about registering an overseas birth and subsequent passport application is here.

Although you do not need to register the birth in the UK in order to apply for and receive a UK passport.

I'm not sure that this is correct, from the info I have you don't need to register the birth in UK to get a UK passport, original Thai birth cert is the legal document, you will need to get it translated though.
