iPhone repair help

Yesterday, I dropped my iPhone 4s. The back came off and the glass shattered. I was planning to go to Tukcom to have it repaired. I understand that sometimes when this happens soldered connections become loose so I would like the shop to have the expertise to check them.

Does anyone have recommendations within Tukcom or anywhere else for this repair?

4s is ann old phone now but there still pretty good, if you want it to keep working like it use to then you should take the time to take it to an Apple store for repair or replace, new screen for my 5 in au was $175.00.

They can fix anything in Thailand but then again lot of times they can't, i saw what some dope did to my clothes iron, another time ex TGF had her nokia repaired and 2 days later it broke down again.

A few of the guys in here that have had there Apple products repaired by non genuine service centres have experienced issues.

I have dropped several phones, as I understand almost everyone does. That is why I don't carry expensive new phones. I was hoping to avoid the Apple Store, because although that solution is probably the best, it's probably the most expensive also.

Is there an Apple store here in Pattaya. I guess it couldn't hurt to get an estimate from them.

Look around on the for sale sites ie; Thai-Visa forum Classifieds or Baht & sold.com. Criglist Thailand etc. etc

There are many (or there were) Iphone 4s for sale around 2000 Baht on the above sites far cheaper than the cost of a proper repair to your phone

Also there are Iphone 4s for sale on Lazada fully refurbished for just under 5000 baht as well

The Iphone 4 & 4 S are now not updated by Apple and there are many Apps that will not work on un-updated software

Now is maybe a good time to replace your Iphone 4s with minimally an iPHONE 5S

call it and was most impressed with it

Apple is beginning to look a bit jaded with their Iphones, its just that I like their easy use, seem better for me than Android but maybe time to change

I've had a 4 repaired just after the release of the 5. A new screen + screen protector for 3,800 baht at a shop in Central. IPhone shop wasn't even bothered to make an offer.

A new 4 can be bought from 4,000 or maybe even cheaper.

Just reading an article in to days Guardian (UK) that talks about replacing the touch sensor button with an non recognised apple product and an error 53 message comes up and locks the phone rendering it useless and also you loose all your info including photos etc. This new trick was in apples last update iOS9 and seems like big complaints to apple about it but they seem to be not listening.

Take it to a "Real" Apple Store and they will exchange it for a refurbished phone. The costs will be $125 - 175 US Dollars.

Apple normally does not make any repairs in their stores! Good Luck this is Thailand!

If you are a Techie then maybe a possibility but parts from eBay are not the immediate best choice, possibly waiting weeks for an uncertain or non-delivery, maybe import duty as well, and then you need the specialist tools to get in to the Phone l .....Non starter for the average phone user I would say

Take it to a real Apple store and they will replace it for $125

If you can find a "real" Iphone store this side of Bangkok, and then its not certain that they have any of the old stock of their now unsupported Iphone 4 series, if you are going down that route why not just buy a refurbished one from Lazada for under $125 in fact well under with COD at 4600 Baht (Cheapest could find)

I'll have to disagree with two of your statements:

It's an old, antiquated piece of junk. Any brand new 3,000 baht smart phone, any brand, will be an improvement. A lot of apps are not supported on it, and Apple will soon give up on it too. They've already pulled IOS update support for the iPhone 4, and the iPhone 4s will be soon to follow.

They can't fix anything here. It's a throw away and replace culture these days. I can't even get my Nokia Slide (late 2007) phone repaired in Pattaya. Parts are not available. I can't even get a decent working battery.

ps..... me i have a 6 plus and a 5 back up if needed, the 4 i gave to my daughter's boy friend and its still working very well.....he is still happy....as for your nokia...well yes i agree its an antique and if it was anything like the half dozen i owned before going Apple.............getting 12 months out of one was a miracle though surprisingly did manage to get around 20 months out of one of them....but hey that 4 is still working like new 6 years later and never needed to be repaired.

It's not an opinion, it's demonstratable fact. The processor is slow and it doesn't work well with many apps, if at all. It's also a fact that you'll get more out of a new cheap smart phone model of any brand. This is not a dig at Apple - it's just the way technology advances.

My opinion is that it's not worth spending money to repair it.

I'm not complaining about my Nokia Slide - just using it as an example of how you can't easily get older stuff fixed in Thailand.

Thanks for all your helpful replies. I failed to mention that I'll be back in the states in 30 days and I'll have many options when I get back there. I just wanted to know there was a viable, reliable repair option here in Pattaya. Although I brought another phone (Motorola droid Maxx) with me as a backup, I prefer to use the iPhone because it serves me well and integrates well with all my other Apple products. I have been with Apple for 30 years and am committed to their gui ecosystem.

Android has no I message, no face time. in 2 years your Android become slow and lose it s value. my iPhone 4S rocks.

Android users are a weird bunch, it's just a phone, I've had android phones and Apple phones, I happen to prefer Apple at the moment, things do seem to work better, the apps are good.

Android is more flexible and I bought one for a 14 year old who wanted an iPhone but I said best you get Android, much easier to get media and share amonst friends on any computer etc, Apple is iTunes wich if you are not prepared can be a pain, getting Apple ID, Only One Store where you buy the card, etc etc, but I still prefer Apple, but I do like Android too.

Many Android users are adamant that Apple phones are terrible and your"re an idiot not to have the phone they have, bit silly really, but it's all good, Iv'e still got a 4s, it's a spare phone but I ain't selling it or throwing it away, same as the 3gs I still have, both still work perfectly, I have an iPhone 6, that will last me a few years too, would I have the same experience with my old Android phones ?

Obviously not, I gave them all away except the 2 that I threw away.

Update: Thanks for all the helpful and interesting responses. I went to Tukcom, second floor, at the very back and had the rear glass changed for $200bt. Took 5 minutes. I am a happy camper. A store towards the front wanted $800bt.
