Windows 10 Pro and quite a lot of problems.....

There's a time where I thought Windows 10 pro seems to be quite nice, but since then too many problems occurred and I just wanted to post some of them, if that sounds familiar to some other here on this forum.

1. No way to get to your "menu" by clicking on the windows sign with your mouse, nor on your keyboard. It isn't accessible anymore.

2. After a system restore, the machine doesn't start up and keeps hanging forever.

3. You don't have access to your account via settings.

4.Many programs just don't work properly with Windows 10.

5. Many problems with Google Chrome, which might be related to Windows 10 software?

And the list could go on and on. Thanks for any responses.

Posted

As most "pro" software is of the less than legal type here that might have to be taken into consideration but.

1. Using a normal Windows 10 get a text menu by right click on window icon.

2. Never had to restore - but when machine did several times when first upgraded it took care of itself.

3. Have no idea what account you are asking about.

4. Am sure there are some - but even my old Peggle works fine (better than it did in Windows 7).

5. Use Google Chrome all the time and no issues at all.

.1. All machines ran W 7 Ultimate and updated to Windows 10 Pro.

Neither the search box, nor the settings were accessible by using the Windows icon.

2. If you "run" into such an issue, you might consider to try a system restore?

3. Click on the Windows icon, then go to settings to access your user account settings, including adding a user, changing passwords, etc..

4. Some genuine programs don't work under Windows 10, not compatible. Only Buddha knows why not. Problems with Acronis back up & restore happened on two PC's.

5. I'm not the only one who had issues with Google Chrome just recently. All are using Windows 10 Pro. Nobody with W 7 had such problems.

These problems occurred on five different machines, so it's not a faulty installation.

It's possible that somebody else was using three PC's and didn't know what to do, downloaded viruses, etc?

My point posting was only to find out if I'm the only one who's got such problems. To fix these issues always takes a long time and I'm really not happy to solve problems. with a brand new system that shouldn't have such issues.

The Windows icon in the bottom left doesn't give you a menu? I remember this from the technical preview, something to do with a local account. Fixed by creating a new administrator account IIRC.

2. After a system restore, the machine doesn't start up and keeps hanging forever.

What build are you on? What build are you trying to restore?

3. You don't have access to your account via settings.

Can you elaborate? Action Center, All Settings doesn't give you an accounts option, or it doesn't work? Although if the account has a problem, a new one might solve that (see #1).

4.Many programs just don't work properly with Windows 10.

But the Update Readiness tool will have told you that.

5. Many problems with Google Chrome, which might be related to Windows 10 software?

Haven't had any myself.

I've had two machines passed to me with faults similar to what you are experiencing and more. Both were 'updated' from W7 Ultimate (I suspect with pirate codes) to W10 with the usual complaints of

not working properly.

Simple answer:

Get a legit copy and your problems will be over.

Personally, I've got 3 machines all running W10 from W7 auto update with no problems. In fact, they run a lot faster now and the old 'baby' notebook with only an Atom processor and 1G ram that was ultra-slow is now usable again.

Just for your information:

Bookmark (for school) will not work on 64bit systems without running in compatibility mode and even then it has more problems on W10. Like many programs schools use for administration purposes, they are outdated, pirated and belong with Noah.

Have fun!

No problems at all for me with legit copy, first thing to do get rid of most of the

Windows apps, then run 0&0 shut up or similar app,to cut down on the Windows

tracking etc.

I notice you on here quite often with problems, maybe you just need to get your

system running right ,then leave it alone.

Updated to your response.'

1. Menu in text including search option is available by right click on window. Settings is main feature in the icon normal click on window.

2. Should not need backup/restore anymore - it takes care of it - don't use extra programs to cause issues.

3. Select setting from normal click window icon view and select accounts - full control of all programs and system is available there.

4. Back up is automatic - don't try to use old programs that are not needed.

5. Again can only say have not had these problems as as Chrome is used by a huge number of people do not believe many are having them or it would be major news.

Haven't had any myself.

There's a so called Administrator built in account that doesn't allow changes on one of the problem machines.

Unfortunately, do others at school use the thingy and i do not know what they're doing on/with them.

I've seen too many things before, when an Anti virus system wanted a restart, they just don't do it, because they don't get it. How can you create a new account if you can't get into these settings?

The system restore i'd created shouldn't stop after booting up, showing all normal, then it just stops. Fixed that with a Acronis back up, i luckily found.

It doesn't give me an account settings option on another machine, no way to use the weather, edge, and some more features. Okay, that on the other hand could be the build in Administrator. How do I disable that, if I don't have access to get to the settings?

All machines checked my programs and all programs on all five machine I'm on about showed that all programs were fine with 10.

The Google problem was almost simultaneously on my son's PC, then on one at school and a week later on my PC.

But I'm still learning and might be able to find the solution(s) sooner, or later.

Thanks a lot for your nice replies. Cheers-thumbsup.gif

I have been running Windows 10 Pro 64 bit version for about 3 months now on my HP desktop with no major problems. I got the upgrade from a "bent" copy of Windows 7 and MS made it a legal copy.

I use Firefox 43.0.4 as my browser and have no serious problems with that either.

I haven't had the need to do a back up or restore yet.

The really annoying problem is that when I am in Firefox on quite a few programs including TVF when I change the page it quite often says that it cannot find TVF, BBC for example. I retry the page a couple of times and it works but if it doesn't I hit F5 and that usually does the trick.

I think that's more to do with crappy DNS in Thailand and their proclivity for pissing about in an attempt to see what people are doing.

Not sure what you are doing reference the account settings problem you seem to be having or what way you have your opening screens from your start button setup. Just a couple of ways to get to User Accounts:

Left click the start button:

If you are seeing a similar screen, click on settings then Accounts

Right click the start button:

If you are seeing a similar screen, click on Control Panel. When the control screen opens, change the view to either large or small icons and click on User Accounts.

As for your System Restore, unless you really need this function, leave it alone. This is not a backup function as such, more a registry restore than a system restore. If you are using a 3rd party software (like Acronis), IMO it is better switching off system restore and work with your image backup for recovery.

Thanks a lot for the great reply. No way to access the account settings on one machine. It's a PC at a school and I almost gave up on it.

I thought about it and came to following conclusion. It might be that I'm using too many programs that are causing these problems.

That goes from System mechanic, Advanced System Care up to Acronis 2014.

But the two machines with the problems are also used by guys ( Asian colleagues) who don't even follow Kaspersky telling them to make a restart to get rid off a virus.

I might stop taking care of the two school computers, as it's in no way my business. But I need them to have access to the IP board.

Unfortunately, there's nobody else who understands Windows 10 at all and I a sort of regret it that I put 10 on.

I'll try to get it fixed now, as the kids are on a boy scout trip. Will report back if I could get it done. Thanks for the tips. wai2.gif

A problem I have had since using W10 is that when using Thaivisa every page takes a long time before I can read it, eg when I finish writing this and send I will go to the next article which will appear quickly but I cannot scroll down to read it for about a minute each and every time. No one has been able to give me a clue as to why this happens. In ten years of reading TV this has never happened on previous windows programs. Only other problem is when writing e.mails it constantly skips letters and words, always at each minute when it is saving what I have written. Wish Chicog lived next door to me.

What are you using for browser? Windows 10 has Edge which is something new and might restrict view until all elements loaded (don't know as don't use it). Have you tried using the same browser you were using previously if not sure?

Edge is pretty cool and I like it. I was just wondering what could have caused Google to dysfunction on three different machines.

After all, I thought all have the same programs and a lot of them are really not needed. Deleting a lot of them did help.

It was also a mistake to use too many extensions from Google. My PC and notebook are okay, I did a few things and at one school computer and I can get into the settings now.

But I can't add an account, it's only the built in administrator one. I deleted it a few weeks ago just to find out that I couldn't log in anymore. ( Lol)

Anyway, thanks a lot for your help, will get it running, if it's not working I'll do a reset, world pretty well, might lose some programs but not a big deal.

My only issue with Win 10 is that from time to time the icons on the desktop change : for instance my Recycle Bin icon is now shown as a Acrobat Reader icon but before it was shown as an Acronis icon.

However when I click the Recycle Bin it always opens as normal but returns to the wrong icon after closing it.

It takes me a lot of trying before I can get the normal icon again

There is something wrong there and I would think it's malware.

Never heard of that before.

Sounds like a virus. Please try the Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool and see if it finds the culprit.

http://www.kaspersky.com/antivirus-removal-tool?form=1

If that doesn't do the trick, download a 14 day trial version of the newest Kaspersky Anti virus and you might be okay.

http://me.kaspersky.com/en/anti-virus-trial

If not you can do an image restore, or a reset, by going to update and security, then click on recovery. You can choose to keep your files.

It re installs Windows, but it's working well. You might have to put on a few programs, but it will show you which you'll lose before doing it..

Good luck.

I have on my desktop PC Bitdefender Total Security & Iobit Malware Fighter ; they do a check every day

Now I also tried the Kasperky Antivirus Removal Tool and also this did not detect any virus
