We need to put 400,000 in the bank or we must show the income source, right?

That is for acquiring an extension of stay based on the marriage, not for the actual marriage.

I assume you might be asking about an extension of stay for a foreign woman that is married to a Thai man.

If so, then the foreign woman does not need to have 400k in the bank or an income. That rule only applies to foreign men married to a Thai women.

I know I'm going to get a load of -------- for this, but let's look at it from a different way or ways. A non Thai marries a Thai lady and is required to show that financially he can support her and any future children.

A non Thai marries a Thai lady and in Thailand the married couple have have no recourse to social security or medical treatment etc etc. Yes I know it's the same for for a Thai man getting married to a non Thai lady.

Compare that to the situation where a non EU or UK resident gets married to a non EU or UK resident and ends up with all the benefits that haven't been paid for.

I would make a guess that 99% of Thai men that marry a non Thai lady are financially and socially secure and don't need the Nanny state to look after them.

It's a fact that Thailand doesn't want a load of non Thai men to marry their Thai ladies and not be capable of looking after the family, direct family I mean.

I have no argument with that.

Total rubbish. It is discrimination against women. Simple as that.

Correct. This is an English translation of the current, discriminatory version of the clause 2.18(6) for aliens married to a Thai national (highlighting in bold is mine):

In the case of marriage to a Thai woman, the alien husband must earn an average annual income of no less than Baht 40,000 per month or must have no less than Baht 400,000 in a bank account in Thailand for the past two months to cover expenses for one year.

To elimate this blatent discrimination on the basis of gender, which was in violation of the last constitution of Thailand and will likely be also in violationof the next constitution, the above clause would have to amended to read as follows:

In the case of marriage to a Thai national, the alien must earn an average annual income of no less than Baht 40,000 per month or must have no less than Baht 400,000 in a bank account in Thailand for the past two months to cover expenses for one year.

Why not? It's a good system
